I thought discussion of JD deserves its own thread. Found this TED Talk interesting... (14 min)

I gotta say, he makes me a little nervous. He uses a lot of socio/psychobabble terms like "Social Capital". He also throws in hints at socialism. In addition, he is reportedly friend and ally of Lindsay Graham who is in the pockets of the Military-Industrial Complex and is for attacking any foreign country or starting any war that will enrich his primary donors. It sounds like Vance is a war monger, which Trump definitely is not--or hasn't been up to this point. We'll see what happens. His book is now the biggest seller in the U.S.

He has pulled himself out of poverty, and I can identify with that myself. I think a VP candidate who who is a lawyer and a U.S. Senator refers disparagingly of the "Ruling Class" is suspect as well since he is part of that ruling class.

There are definitely people who think he will be a good VP and some that are unsure of him. An interesting thing about his wife, she came out wearing blue,(as opposed to red) and with one eye covered, which is kind of an Illuminati signal when they cover one eye.
It looks like he should bring in some new votes though, and that is what is important at this point, just like the rappers and Amber Rose.

Being elected is surely a crucial step, but we also need someone who can continue whatever it is that Trump is able to do in four years, keeping in mind that he is likely to be under siege the whole time, and even a solid Republican majority in both Houses provides little comfort when you consider that Republicans generally eat their own when given the chance to actually further an agenda.

I don't know if JD Vance was a good choice, and given all of the bad choices that Trump has made in judging people in the past, I am not assured by the fact that he chose him. Nevertheless, that's who we have, and I'm not going to refuse to vote the ticket because I have qualms about the second name on it.

That said, in the short time he has been in office, Vance has said a lot of the right things and he has mostly voted right, as far as I am aware. It could be that he doesn't identify with the ruling class because he wasn't born into the elite.

So, just who does everyone there think Trump should've picked? As for us, we don't even know this dude. LOL

I'm still not sure what I think about JD. I like a lot of things about him but his focus on his upbringing seems more appropriate for a career in social work than politics. For example, Ben Carson comes from a very poor background and he has accomplished so much. He has always shared his background but not in such detail. Is it acceptable to talk about how bad all your relatives were at great length? Maybe I've missed an opportunity all these years cause I do have some stories.

Oh well. Something will happen to help me get this sorted for my own peace of mind eventually. :(

Of course I realize that politicians can do a lot for people, groups, situations, etc., but as he acknowledges what helped him the most is individuals. I think one lesson there is that all of us should be doing more to help the young people we encounter with encouragement, a hand up when we can, with our example, not words necessarily but just by how we live, etc. I always have a teenager who cuts my yard and sometimes does other yard things for me. I am complimentary for the least bit of initiative they show. Some are more receptive to talking with an old lady than others. :)

I watched the Ted Talk, thanks Beth.

I liked his wife. She is not polished and definitely needs some help with the hair but that's easily fixed if she's willing. She's going to have to stand on a stage with Melania so she better be willing. :D More important than looks I liked what she said. She's someone I would like to have coffee with.

We don't really know any of them. Maybe JD is more honest than most, maybe too talkative for his own good.

It seems to me that Trump is courting millennials with his choice of a younger man. Also working class people since many will identify with Vance's background. Naturally the democrats are going crazy trying to dig up every possible negative about Vance and many of their proclamations are nothing short of laughable.

I read a piece quoting Vance's college roommate who had the lack of integrity to share some very old private messages between Vance and himself. Nothing says "perfidious sellout" like sharing private conversations, particularly from many years ago.

Libs are making too much of the fact that Vance was not a Trump supporter in 2016. To that I say, so what? I was not a Trump supporter in 2016 either. People change; get over it.

Megyn Kelly interview from 2017. What a difference 7 years makes.

Many are saying that Vance is too young and hasn’t been in politics / the Senate long enough (since ‘23) to be VP and potentially, the President.

My take on it is that he hasn’t been in the Senate long enough to be totally corrupted by the lifers and has probably heard enough back door information that it could be to his advantage when he takes the seat as President of the Senate. (presuming the duo is elected)

I think he's pretty much an unknown to most of the nation. He is the least known of all of the choices we thought Trump would make.

Look at what Kamala has said about Biden. Folks are expecting both of those things to come up in a debate, and it will basically be a mud-slinging draw.

I had no idea about that illuminate thing, just thought she was a "Veronica Lake" fan ;) I was glad when she was up to speak, she finally pushed it behind her ear ;) I didn't even think of the blue dress, but isn't it a shame that someone wearing a certain color might be mistaken for the opposite political party. Although I've loved having an Elephant for the party I've been with, and still am registered as I voted early, but now wished I could have added my vote to Oregon.

I can identify with part of his story. I grew up in a different part of Appalachia, and I was orphaned not abused by a druggie, but I was rescued by an aunt and uncle. I would, however, never run for office.
