"Indonesia will re-locate 10 million people from its capital city of Jakarta to the sparsely populated eastern edge of Borneo island." The city is prone to floods and is sinking due to subsidence, caused by millions of residents using up groundwater. "Jakarta is sinking by 17cm a year, faster than anywhere else in the world, because of rising sea levels caused by climate change." See: https://www.yahoo.com/news/indonesi...om-its-sinking-capital-jakarta-152956465.html We do not have it too bad. This I cannot begin to imagine. Frank
Climate change is exacerbating the problem. But I read it is sinking because it was built on a swamp. If so this was insanely poor planning by those who built Jakarta. Was it the Dutch?
There monsoon season doesn't even start till fall. Good thing they are making alternate plans now. It's surprising this all happened so suddenly. Were there any other contribution besides 'global warming'? I thought moved a little slower than waist deep in a week.
