My lifelong friend Charlie called last night from Chicago. He was up in arms over the latest madness there. He described it as a cop having shot a black guy on the South Side, which immediately brought a huge crowd of thugs moving northwards up Michigan Ave., to an area known for it's proliferation of valuable jewelry stores, diamonds, and such. They proceeded to smash out windows and loot everything valuable. Charlie said there was glass everywhere. He was greatly troubled by it, not able to understand (nor can I) how such great numbers of people can mass together to perpetrate criminal activity. He did not enlarge further. He said it was not revealed whether the shooter (cop) was black or white; I asked him if it would make a difference. He doubted it. Frank
From what I saw on FB this morning, the new police boss, Commissioner Brown is really going after the people who ransacked downtown Chicago this last weekend. He stated that he has a lot of video footage / evidence and he’s getting more from the businesses downtown. Dunno but he sounds like he is behind the police department doing the job they were hired to do. To me, what’s most interesting about him is that because he’s from Dallas, he has no real ties to Chicago other than being the new boss. If I remember correctly, the Dallas / Ft. Worth police didn’t play when I lived there so maybe he’ll bring that Dallas attitude with him and start cleaning up Chicago.
I doubt the liberals in Chicago will let that happen, Bobby. He will arrest them and the DA will release them.
This need to be put into federal hands and take it away from the democrat politicians run justice system. This idea of letting them all off the hook will only bring out more. Beetle juice running lose
Martin, let's get real conspiratorial here. Suppose those social media posts encouraging looting were done by other than BLM or Antifa. Let's further suppose that the purpose of encouraging looting is to involve federal troops in fighting the protests in these cities. I don't know if that's true, you don't know if it'd true. All we can know is we're being manipulated bigtime. The crux of any event is, does it lead us closer to a police state or farther from a police state? We don't need the feds or military to keep the peace in our cities. The locals do well enough.
Clearly, it seems to me, the locals are doing everything but keeping the peace in our large Democrat-controlled cities. It seems to me that local officials are encouraging the riots, doing little or nothing to control them, and then not even charging anyone with the crimes they committed during the riots.
We have to differentiate between the terms 'local officials' and 'local police'. The local police do okay when not hamstrung by by mayors or others who side against the police. I'll grant that police need more support from their city officials in some cities. Even so, we don't need ICE or other federal agencies to be in the cities. The protection of federal property can be done by local police. It's so apparent to me that states and cities should police themselves without the feds or military being involved. The participation of the feds is a clear dividing line that shouldn't be crossed. It's a creeping increment towards an authoritarian state. You're aware of the high tech surveiiance going on, face-scanning, classifying. categorizing people as to whether they are potential enemies of the state. This is the feds in action. We don't need it.
I'll add one more thing. From what I see the vast majority of Americans, black, white, whoever want reform, not revolution. That tiny pocket of people who are willing to destroy property and threaten police are just that, a tiny pocket. It wouldn't surprise me if half of them were paid provocateurs. If that were so, we need to ask 'who's paying them?'
Does this not look to you like the mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, engaging in the looting herself ? If so, then you need look no further to ask where the orders are coming from.
I can't tell whether you're joking, Yvonne? That is obviously a photo-shopped picture. "Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear."
I would say that your image is a photoshop. This is the original. Looks like the girl only needed three phones and a pack of toilet paper.
I guess I didn’t look close enough, but I have seen it several times online; so I guess it is just being passed around. I am glad. I would hate to think that the mayor would actually be out there looting, too. Thank you , @Beth Gallagher ! And @Peter Renfro , for finding the original photo.
