There are just some things that perplex us and this is one for me regarding spectacles Why does the little screw that holds the lens in place, work loose The arm movement is separate so shouldn't affect the screw ………..
I got a neat spectacle fixing box from amazon, has lots of different size screws and a good little screwdriver for the task
You are so right and the only way is to have a spare pair - you can get a cheap pair of reading glasses from stores which magnify
Bobby was having that problem with his glasses, and he would use a pair of my reading glasses so he could see to put the little screw back in; but then one day, he totally lost the little screw somewhere and couldn’t repair the glasses. We were going to stop at Walmart at the vision center and get a new one put in, but in the meantime, I found an old pair of my reading glasses that didn’t fit well, and told him to use the screw from those. They were just Dollar Tree glasses, and I have several pair, so this gave him 2 extra screws if he lost another one. It turned out that the dime store glasses had better screws than his regular glasses, apparently, because he has not had to tighten them up since he fixed them this last time.
What a great idea ! I wonder if your story was just sheer luck - there are so many different size screws in my little box I'm just looking at the word 'box' and I don't know why, but it just don't look right - think I'm having a 'funny turn'
It might be that the new screw was just a tiny bit larger than the one that kept falling out of Bobby’s glasses, so when he put in the new one, it would have dug into the plastic and made better grooves. That would help to hold the screw in properly, if they had gotten worn to the point where the smaller screw just kept coming loose and falling out. Not sure why it worked, but it did !
As long as you have the proper screwdriver, you could give the screws a tweak periodically before it's too late.
This is when you invite one of the kids over for coffee.............. I don't have a whole kit, but I do have a tiny screwdriver that is perfect for the job.
I have a kit but my backup glasses need to be had to correct position and that leaves me with one hand to hold the screwdriver and the arm, screw, and rest of frame. My nearest kid is 3 hours away.
