I wanted to know what the past "jobs" of our presidents were so I found this cool site. I had made a statement that our best presidents were working guys, or military. Guess I wasn't so far off. At least I believe the presidents that seem to have been the most loved were either military, or held real jobs. I'll let others decide, but comments would be appreciated because I don't know my "political" history very well at all Denise PS Maybe this would be better in politics, but it is history too, so wasn't sure. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Presidents_of_the_United_States_by_occupation
By the way, as I said, I don't know my political history well, but a statement was made by a "news source" that history shows businessmen don't make good presidents. It looks to me like some of our worst Presidents were lawyers, or non-working Americans. Business men are "workers" that have built their own businesses so they could work for themselves, right? Again, would enjoy feedback, as I learn a lot from you all denise
I don't know about that list and what it really means but you really can't call Trump an average businessman like most people are. He kind of inherited it from his Father, he was never poor so don't think he had the same problem as others starting a business. He is more of a Brand name now but I guess if you had to call him something it would be businessman. Not sure but I think he started in Real estate..his fathers company. Again, I'm not sure so Don't quote me on that.
No, Donald isn't average, he may even be an-over-achiever. But no one gets through this life without struggles, and hard-work if they survive in the business/working world. His dad may have given him a start, and some darn, good work-ethic imo, but lots of people have had tons of money. Do I respect them like I do Trump? I'd have to see how they handled their "leg up". He didn't squander his dough. We all make mistakes, but one of his quotes goes something like, sometimes you have to lose a battle to learn how to win the war. He wrote a book called The Art of the Deal. People that do good at a garage sale, know how to make deals. Or people that barter, an item for an item, no money exchanged. They know how to make a deal, win/win deals. Donald Trump seems very good at that I hope no one ever gets the impression I think I know it all, or am even right
I'm pretty sure he stepped on some toes too to get where he is. I don't know everything either, Denise and I'm not anti Trump but just like you told me elsewhere, you have to have an open mind and look at all sides. He's not squeaky clean. He's been pro life, pro choice and not even sure where he is on religion though that doesn't matter because it's not a requirement for President. I personally feel that no matter who wins my life isn't changing much. I'm only talking about my life now.
I don't think that the list shows what they did politically before they became President. I know Clinton was Governor of Arkansas and they don't list that. And in the end I don't think it matters what they did before..to me it will matter what they do while they are President.
I hope and pray that this country will change, if it changes, my life changes. I mean I hope whoever gets in is going to change things for the good of America. Call me a consipiricy theorist, but I feel strongly that if we continue on with another Obama cohort, our, comfy little lives are going to change for the worst. I hope I'm wrong, because Hillary has quite a following
Gosh if we had to choose between who was more "squeaky clean" ...Trump would win hands down in my opinion. Both Bill and Hillary are so far from squeaky clean that I'm afraid nothing has been invented yet that could make them squeaky clean!
That's true, and I did notice something was missing as I was sure many were in politics as well. I do think it matters what a person has done in the past, what they've learned, how they grown in a good way, or in a bad way. Yes, it's important what they actually do in the highest office in the land, but my past is sometimes my greatest asset today.
http://hubpages.com/politics/Before-They-Became-President-of-The-United-States I think this webpage tells you much more about our past Presidents including their political experience.
I don't disagree with you, Babs. I don't like the Clinton's at all. I'm just saying that Trump probably won't deliver on most of the things he's said. No president ever does.
No President ever could since they don't govern alone nor have total control over decisions. If they did, we would have a Dictator instead of a President. With the House and the Senate not being able to agree on anything either now days...I really don't know how anything is accomplished anymore. And I don't think this will change much no matter who our next President is either.
Well, I am not surprised that there are so many lawyers. However, I am disapointed that there are so many. It would be nice to have more candidates with a military background as the president is the Commander in Chief.
Both Ohio and Virginia claim 8 Presidents. William Henry Harrison was born in VA, but moved to Ohio at an early age.
