Has everyone got their ticket for Wednesday's 1.3 billion dollar powerball lottery? I get one ticket for each drawing, powerball and mega millions. If I get to town before Wednesday's drawing I'll invest in more tickets.
Nope, not I. But it brings up an interesting question in my mind... I'm not sure I'd WANT such a ridiculously huge win. Don't throw things at me! It's just that I feel it would be overwhelming to me. That doesn't mean I wouldn't be the happiest Mari on the planet to win a few million... I get all excited just thinking of the possibilities and the good I could do with my pet projects and favorite charities. But mega millions? A *BILLION* Maybe my reasoning is messed up, but a billion dollars crosses over into the "well that's just ridiculous for one person to win" category. (Or two people or five people... whatever. Same diff in my mind.) That said on my personal feelings, I fully expect @Ike Willis to throw a HUGE bash for all of us in Hawaii if *he* wins! I'll take a PuPu Platter at the initial luau.
Yes, I bought one so far, decided on a new strategy . Will buy one at every store I go to til Wednesday. Not all sell them so probably one or two more tickets. Mari, I'm not looking to win for me...one million is enough but I want to split between my two kids the major amount and then to siblings. After all relatives have gotten a share, a few friends would get some ( you know who you are) And some I might surprise. And you don't know who so be nice to me. Maybe a few deserving charities but I'm not going to save the world! Also, don't forget after taxes not as much but still good!
I agree with Mari about the huge amount. That's an insane amount of money. I would be happy with a million I think .... could wrap my mind about how to deal with that .... but, millions and millions, I think it would cause more misery than happiness.
I would sign mine over right away to my two kids and let them dole it out to me. I would write a provision though if they divorced it would be up to me how much my SIL or DIL would get.
Well now that's called covering your tracks for sure, @Chrissy Page I'm pretty sure I wouldn't sign a win of any size totally over to my daughter, but I'd certainly make sure that she's never wanting for anything at all... same with my parents. My siblings... well that's trickier. While I'd give my child or parents anything they need or want, I'd probably do something different for my siblings... maybe pay off their houses. I don't *think* any of them would be petty enough to come up with "Hey, *HE* still owed $250k and you just paid mine off with a $25k balance!" Of course, it could happen. See, already I'm fretting over how to distribute money I don't have. Winning a billion... I'd have a breakdown!
There were no winners except the government (profit on all those tickets). So the question is…Did we learn our lesson or are we all going to try again for Wednesday's drawing??
Some states like Iowa, put their lottery money in the General Fund http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=92595&page=1 30 cents of every dollar goes to the schools http://www.cbsnews.com/news/is-the-lottery-shortchanging-schools/
Yes, but it's not exactly fair of the government to give a blanket statement that the schools receive the lottery profit. Plus, some states like Iowa put theirs in a General Fund http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=92595&page=1
