A gunman opened fire on a restaurant in Toronto in a mass shooting that left one dead and 13 injured including a nine-year-old girl, before he too was killed. Witnesses say that a man dressed in black opened fire in Greektown on Danforth, a popular area of the city full of restaurants and stores, at around 10pm on Sunday evening. Between 15 and 20 gunshots were heard. Police have confirmed that the shooter was killed after getting into a shootout with police. A cellphone video, which appears to have been taken by someone in an apartment above the street, captured the shooter wearing a black hoodie and walking down the street. Suddenly he turns as he is passing a restaurant, before pulling out a handgun and opening fire The gunman shot at least 14 people, killing a young woman. The woman died in hospital after succumbing to her injuries. Several other victims reportedly suffered 'significant injuries'. Another sad incident! It says the gunman is believed to have emotional issues. Fortunately, he used a handgun (illegal in Toronto and much of Canada, I believe). If he had used a shotgun and walked into the restaurant, many more would have been killed and injured. The only upside of the TV and movie violence is that it leads people to believe they can shoot large numbers of people with a handgun. Few people can really do that unless they are very, very trained, particularly when the targets are moving.
Quote “Our son had severe mental health challenges, struggling with psychosis and depression his entire life. The interventions of professionals were unsuccessful. Medications and therapy were unable to treat him. While we did our best to seek help for him throughout his life of struggle and pain, we could never imagine that this would be his devastating and destructive end. "End Quote Then how was he still able to get a gun in Canada?
@Shirley Martin You are being facetious, are you not? If not, I'll throw out my two cents: no matter how restrictive laws are made, firearms will NEVER be eliminated entirely from society. Impossible task. I'd bet a guy seeking to buy a gun could in Canada enter any bar, strike up some conversations, and find someone who either has a gun to sell, or knows someone who does. Guns are built by machinists. Machinists need not work for gun-building companies to build guns. Frank
That's why I think a law banning guns would never do any good. The only ones it would ban from acquiring guns are law abiding citizens.
