How many of you still eat at McDonalds? That has never been a favorite choice for me, but it is the only fast-food place we have in Millinocket, and about the only restaurant that's open after 9:00 pm, so I do go there from time to time. I rarely order burgers there and, when I do, my stomach feels uneasy afterward. Since I don't like the taste, they leave me with an uneasy stomach, and I am sure they're not good for me, that is not a common choice. I do like their breakfast stuff though, particularly the Sausage McMuffin with Egg and the Egg McMuffin. Since they started serving breakfast all day, they are the only restaurant we have that will serve breakfast after 10:00 am. There was a time when I really liked McDonald's fries. That was once the one thing that they did right, but all that changed with the saturated fat scandals. They changed how they make their fries, and now they taste pretty much like the cardboard containers they come in, but with salt added.
I like McD's sometimes. One thing I do really like there is their McCafe menu. They are really very good, and are considerably cheaper than Starbucks. I had one this past week, and I thought it was awesome. I read that McDonald's in Missouri is experimenting with all you can eat fries. I think that will go over well. However, I imagine that some people will spend hours in there eating fries. I think they also may be looking to expand their pick two menu.
I have never liked McDonald's hamburgers much at all, although a hamburger has been my most favorite food ever since I can remember. Specifically, a cheeseburger deluxe with everything on it. And french fries were a special treat; but now that they are not even made with real, freshly cut potatoes, I don't like the french fries either. They all taste mealy to me, and since they were made of processed potatoes formed into sticks and then frozen, it is no wonder that they don't taste like a real potato that had been deep-fried. When I lived in central Missouri, in the late 1990's, some of the McDonalds there had a buffet breakfast, I think maybe just on weekends. It was just their regular breakfast stuff, the egg mcmuffins, sausage biscuit, breakfast burrito, and whatever else they had for breakfast; but it was cheap, fast, and easy, and all you could eat. I think it might have even come with coffee or some other drink; but I am not sure about that part. That is the only place that I ever saw McDonalds have a breakfast buffet, and it was probably the only time that I actually liked eating at a McDonalds.
I used to like McD. But there are so many other choices. Their sausage mcmuffin is decent but mine at home is better. Coincidentally, last week I was riding with a friend and he wanted to get something from McD. I didn't feel like cooking dinner so I thought it would be okay to take a Big Mac home, hadn't had one in ages. When I got home I took two bites and threw it in the trash. It was bad. I recall the fish sandwich and McRib are decent. And they have good coffee for a cheap price. For a hamburger I prefer Burger King.
McDonalds bragged for years in the financial circles about not having ever closed one of their restaurants. Then, one of those pesky recessions did one in; that was jumped on by the attention-seeking media. I suspect a big difference exists between company-owned outlets and franchised ones. A McDonalds operated inside the Edgewater Hotel, Laughlin, casino for quite a few years. In 2014 it closed with no hoopla, just abruptly quit. Walls were hastily erected around the working part of the operation, as an outside access door (maybe a fire exit) opened into the old seating area. :Last year, a new operation opened there, called "Wild Styles". Burgers, pizza, other quick sandwiches, little else. McDonalds IMO was once the epitome of good-tasting fast food. Order their Fish Fillet, and you waited about 15 minutes, they were not pre-made. Always hot, dripping of that wonderful-tasting grease! Today, I suspect much of their fare is pre-cooked and frozen, then used as needed, quick-thawed either by microwave or grill or both. Of course, I have no proof of this, just suspicion. The fish is ready almost instantly, and it's taste is far inferior to that of old. Frank
I like McDonald's food and their deals. They had a 2 for $2 and I couldn't resit it and got me a burger and fries! My Mother is like you Ken and will never eat McDonald's hamburger ever! Maybe what can help get companies to open at your town is to tweet them about it I get all sorts of help when I tweet companies, so why not a new fast food restaurant too?
The last good sandwich I got @McD was a few years ago when they had a really thick Burger called Angus. It was very big and tasted great but was discontinued.
We often go to MacDonald's for their GREAT coffee.. We order a "Senior" coffee and that means refills galore.. It is also very cheap and very tasty.. good coffee.. They also have a "snack Wrap" that is also very good.. I often will have one or even two.. Grilled with extra chipotle sauce...
I haven't been to McDonalds in many years. We seldom eat out at all and when we do McDonalds would be the last place we'd go. Twenty some years ago I was visiting my sister and she said she ate breakfast at McDonalds every day so I went with her, I got biscuits and gravy and the stuff was so salty I wouldn't eat it. (note to my sister) If you come to visit me I'll cook some real food at home.
Here is the History of McDonald's. The oldest operating McDonald's on Lakewood and Florence in Downey, California, was the chain's third restaurant and the second to be built with the Golden Arches.
We don't cook at home nearly as much as we use to. If we have a coupon for McD's, we will eat there and my wife loves their pancakes, but we love a Waffle House breakfast more. For me, I like their Big Mac, Quarter Pounder and Fillet-of-Fish, but like Wendy's Fish Fillet Sandwich much better, when they have it. On our "one night a week" Mexican food, we will either go to a restaurant or get something from Taco Bell.
McDonalds is where many of the seniors here in Millinocket hang out. For years, they had gone to another restaurant here in town, but a new owner, from away, didn't want them sitting around drinking coffee for hours. I'm not sure how that worked out for him because most people here are related to one another, and he angered many of his customers. I have noticed that he's only open during the spring and summer now, the tourist season, whereas it had always been a year-round restaurant previously. There was a problem with an assistant manager at McDonalds too, but their manager made it clear that they were welcome to occupy a couple of tables for as long as they wanted. Mostly, the seniors here are retired millworkers who were cheated out of their pension when the mill changed hands several times, and then closed. Since they had depended on their pension, they have no savings and are wholly dependent upon Social Security. I don't hang out with them because, although I am also a former paperworker, I've never worked in the mill here, and am not related to any of them, so I don't have a lot to talk about.
Saw that the Waffle House close to house was closed and sign out front was gone. No! Can't be! Every time I turn around here, they are tearing something down to put up a 'Hipster' eat joint. Last week drove by and sign was back, just a renovation.
McDonald's used to be the number 1 fast food here until Jollibee, a homegrown fast food, grabbed the throne. But I believe that McDonald's is still number 2. My husband drives for me at least once a week when his schedule permits and after bringing me to the office, his wont was to proceed to a McDonald's drive-thru. He would end up in the village park to eat his breakfast inside the car while listening to radio. He loved the big breakfast although recently he preferred the sausage platter that comes with scrambled egg and rice. His favorite drink is the hot choco to which I agree that it is the best hot choco in town.
McDonald's was the first and biggest fast food success story, world wide. They just stayed to long at the fair. They should have opened a new chain called McDonna's and hired all women. Make way for Donna McDonna!
