I remember the first time I heard that joke I laughed so hard I fell off my chair ( we were living in Spain at the time)
Well...guess I’m weird but I don’t think it’s funny...for one thing it’s not even true. Think there’s different variations of it with different countries.
No but it says based on a true story. The reason I don’t think it’s that funny is that a warship would know a lighthouse from another ship....guess I just don’t get it...sorry.
It sounds like something the Germans cooked up, as the dialogue is English with German subtitles, but the accent is German in nature. Much of the U.S. Navy has deteriorated, but those aren't the responses that a ship captain would give, and, despite some incompetence, and aircraft carrier knows where it is on the globe and would never mistake a lighthouse for a ship.
Don I agree but it is only hummer. I dealt with the American Navy on different occasion and found them quite comical and professional . On time in New York harbor was a Navy boat trying to get a boat out of the channel and came on the radio after calling two or three times. He called and told the boat we are doing our best not to run you down. Another time at night I picked up three large targets a head of me I called on the radio and I had a come back you can see us I said yes one second later they came back and said can you see us now the targets disappeared off the radar.that's scary
