In the movie this scene belongs to the hero rubs himself with horse dung in order to trick the guard into letting him pass the town gate. It worked because the guard says " Oh, my God, you stink." and abstains from searching him.

    Thomas these obscure scenes are not easy. I have seen thousands of movies over more than 50 years. That translates to millions of scenes. Give me a break. All I can do is have a wild guess. It is obviously a 'sword and sandal' film. I saw this at around the same time as the real classics like Ben Hur and Spartacus.. Barabbas (1961)?
