When I first joined the forum I would go to the top of the home page and click on "new posts", and have continued to do so until now. Only now have I noticed in tiny letters on the right of the page "recent posts" after clicking on "new posts". I only noticed this after re-visiting the forum to add an afterthought shortly after having made a comment a little earlier and couldn't find it with just clicking on "new posts". So are "new" and "recent" redundant or if not, what? What say you admin.?
New Posts will not show any post that you have already looked at before. Recent Posts shows all of them. I always use recent posts, because I often go back and respond later. Btw, If you click Mark all Posts Read, the recent posts link disappears on the right, but comes up on the left as a link hidden in a sentence: You have no unread posts. You may view all recent posts instead. It's easier, and less confusing, (for me) to catch up with what's been going on if I'm NOT logged in. It takes a couple extra clicks if you are logged in. Does all this make sense?
Yes, it makes sense. I think I'll stick with recent posts but wonder why it's set up this way. Thanks.
Because, while most people may be interested only in threads that have new posts that they have not already read, sometimes someone might want to find a thread that they have already read. "Recent posts" allow them to do that.
