Hi there! I am a born and raised Delawarean. Yes, we are that tiny state lodged between Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. So many people as me what state Delaware is in..... I just have to laugh! I love it here! We are close to the beaches, DC, Philadelphia, Atlantic City...... I am a mother of 2 and grandmother of 5. I retired twice. The first time was 1991 from a retail store. The second time was in 2014 from a clerical/customer service/ call center operation. I am so happy in my retirement. I am able to spend time with my family again! That's my life! I cannot wait to see what is ahead for me!
Welcome to the forum, @Elaine Pickering ! It sounds like you live in an awesome area, and being close to the ocean beaches is a great plus, in my estimation, at least. Are you where you have to worry about the hurricanes when they come up the coast ? I am from Idaho, but now live in northern Alabama, and love the warmer climate that we have down here. I enjoy gardening , and having the longer growing season is another thing that I really like. What hobbies are you pursuing in your retirement , and do you grow a garden ? How about pets ? We seem to have mostly "cat people" on this forum; so another "dog person" would be great; but if you are a cat person, you will have lots of kindred spirits on that front.
Hi Yvonne! In Delaware hurricanes are not a real concern. We are surrounded on 3 sides by water. Most of the times the hurricanes come up the East Coast from North Carolina and vere off into the ocean until they get to New Jersey. We might get some wind and rain, but very seldom do we get the full blown storm. I love our seasons. Of course, that is all I have ever known. My 66 yrs have been spent right here, in Delaware. I don't have many hobbies as right now I am spending as much time as possible with my sister, who has Parkinson's. When I did do hobbies, I loved counted cross stitch, crocheting and knitting. I also love reading Debbie Macomber and Janet Evanovich books. I play some computer games, but not that often. I love my flower beds. Pets? I must say I love cats, but not so much dogs. I do not have either in my home at this time. Previously we have had both, just not at the same time.
Welcome, @Elaine Pickering , I admit as a child I thought that Delaware was the river crossed by Grorge Washington. Then I thought it was a big office city for corights and legal business contracts. I know, but kids get really weird visions of the world. I live NE of Housron, Texas, so I'm a country mouse with strong city mouse connections. I will be looking forward to getting to know you, and I think you'll find a comfortable nitch amongst us.
Welcome @Elaine Pickering in Delaware. Delaware sounds like a safe haven from the storms that brew up along the eastern shores. I look forward to hearing all about your experiences growing up in Delaware.
Hello and welcome @Elaine Pickering - I'm new here too, I joined on May 29th. I'm a Brit who lives in France and (don't be offended !!!! ) for some strange reason (call it my natural state of mind) the word "delaware" always makes me think of "tupperware" I have no idea why ......
