We are TRYING to sell our 1997 Dodge RAM 1500 Laramie SLT Magnum here in our complex with very little-to-no-luck at all. From what we've seen, driving around here by the Mall, people here only want new-to-brand-new vehicles...…..and there are a lot of them here. New car dealerships must be making a bundle of cash here, but the salaries here are also very, very good. That's why the Jacksonville area is very well known for it's Generation X and Millennial population.

We have two For Sale signs on the truck/Topper. We have washed it, but signs of "wear and tear" are still there. It has 153,619 miles on it and, apparently, that's way to much mileage for this area.

I've looked on both Craigslist and Auto Trader and the oldest truck I could see was basically a 2004. For any repairs, we've had to take it to Midas. Lucky if the Chrysler Dealer will even look at it!

We can't, and won't, take it with us. It has 4WD, which, for those that like to drive a vehicle on the beaches here (where it's allowed), would probably love it...…...if it was newer and better looking.

It looked up the "worth" on Kelly Blue Book and we have it currently priced at what KBB suggests, but.

Actually, wife and I agree that we've never lived in an area where people absolutely love buying new vehicles.

Our next plan, today or tomorrow, is to list it ($25-4 weeks-3 photos) on Auto Trader. I've delt with Craigslist before, with no problems, but today there are just too many horror stories about Craigslist to take a chance.

Have you tried selling on Ebay... ?

I've sold all my cars on Ebay, they charge just £11.99 here in the UK, regardless of how much you're asking for the car....

If you have facebook, there is also the Marketplace , which is free. Here, we have 6-7 online yard sale groups where you can post sale items, as well as a bunch of groups for people buying and selling vehicles.
All of that is free to use, but you need to have Facebook to access any of the groups.

We use Craigslist all of the time, and have never had any problems from using it, and have sold just about everything that we have listed there, and we have also used Craigslist for buying items we wanted as well. It is a great place to find flowers starts and bulbs for the garden, so I love using Craigslist for that.
I think that the main place that has caused problems is the dating (or whatever they call it) part of the website, and since we don’t ever even look there, it is not an issue for us.

Price it right and it will sell. The Bluebook price is just an "estimate" and pricing depends on condition, particularly in older vehicles.

Just looked at Facebook Marketplace/trucks...…….I was shocked! So, that's where most of the older trucks are sold here and many of those old ones listed, don't have the new things like ours does (battery, starter, all new brake system and new tires). Ours has 4WD, whereas most of the old ones on there don't. Wife might just get, or close to it, the amount she wants to get.

Actually, I think Facebook Marketplace looks better than Auto Trader does and Auto Trader costs.

A huge "THANK YOU" to Yvonne for the suggestion of Facebook.

Thing is, someone here asked me if the 4WD works. I told him that we haven't used it since we left Colorado. No need for it where we lived in NC and, unless a 4WD is used in the sand at the beach here, there no need of it here either. But, I did test it out yesterday and HORRAY...…. it works and works fine.

Just listed the truck on Facebook. Folks will know that it's been a "back-up" vehicle for us and we haven't drove it that much in recent years. It's a 1997 with only 153,000 miles on it.

I also was going to suggest Facebook Market place. A truck that old would almost be considered a classic here in the salt covered Northeast. Not many vehicles make it that long before the rust gets them.

Good Luck and take a lesson from the Judge Judy show. Make sure the trucks paperwork completely clears your name before you let it go!

My truck is an F-150, also a '97 with just about the same number of miles. I will be interested in what kind of offers you get. Good luck, Cody.

Sold it this morning to a retired County Deputy Sheriff and got every cent we asked for...…….$3,000. He met us at the Waffle House near his home. We had just finished breakfast when he showed up. We had everything with us......100% clear title, all repair/maintenance receipts from the very day we bought it in 2003, all of the Excel spreadsheets of each year listing the date of repairs, cost and where done. Both set of keys, trailer hitch/ball, fire extinguisher and older jumper cables and CD/AM-FM stereo clip-on face, The Club/keys (for steering wheel security).

Ran engine for him, showed him the new stuff, like starter, master cylinder, battery and he could see the tires were new. Took him for a short ride, where I shifted the gears from 2WD to 4WD and it all worked. Showed him that AC worked. Let him drive it as well. He really liked the truck even more than I thought he would. Anyway, he was going to bring someone with him to drive the truck, or his vehicle, home (if he bought it), but was alone. So, we (wife in our Durango and me in the truck) followed him home. He was very appreciative of that. He showed me his small retirement sheriff's badge.

Actually, when he paid us the cash, he had an extra $100 in the amount he didn't realize. I seen it, and gave it to him. Again, very appreciative of that. Made my wife and I happy that he knows the kind of folks we are that sold him the truck. IOW, honest.

So, now we only have one vehicle again, so have to really take care of the Durango. The money from the truck will be used to pay for the transport of our boat/trailer to northern Colorado.

So, it was a very nice morning!

Awesome, @Cody Fousnaugh ! ! I am SO happy for you, and that was a quick sale, for sure. And you to your whole selling price, so that will help a lot with the move this summer.
How is that coming along, by the way ? Any news of when you will be moving to Colorado ?

Coming along good, but quite a bit faster than we thought. Last Sunday, we applied for, and got approved, for an apartment there. It will be ready to move in on August 9th. When we were in Loveland/Ft Collins area last August 2018, we stopped by this apartment complex and talked with the manager. I have talked to her since our approval and she remembers us. She said "I knew you'd be back". So, now we don't have to look for an apartment when we get there, which means, we don't have to rent a storage unit to have a moving company put our things into. They will deliver to the apartment. When we moved from Colorado to North Carolina, we had to rent a storage unit online and then, once we got there, had to have another moving company take our things from the storage unit to the apartment we found there.

Next, will be getting our boat to Colorado. Have already hired someone to take it there. It suppose to be there on the 28...….if all goes well.

Got to get an estimate from a moving company yet and still pack up more things. We will leave here around the 5th of August. Make a couple of stops along the way, including an overnight at a casino in St. Louis. We never drive all night, so there will be some other motel/hotel stops along the way.
