In 1996, Atlanta hosted the Summer Olympic games. Part of the torch relay was done on horseback, following the old Pony Express routes in Nebraska. On a dark, foggy night our family went to a country crossroad near our town of Hastings and waited for the exchange of the torch from one rider to another. This happened at about 1 am, and we got permission from our youngest's teacher, as he wouldn't be at school the next day till late in the day. We found out later that her husband was one of the riders who carried the torch to another town. So of course it was an 'Excused' absent... http://www.xphomestation.com/olympic.html My favorite Olympic memory.
