Senior citizens here are those 60 years old and above with the following privileges... 1. Free enrollment to Philhealth - the government's health insurance 2. Discount on food at 20% plus vat-free of 12% 3. Free movies in the local theaters (of the city or town where you live) 4. Priorities in government services - priority lanes in queue 5. Other benfits The other benefits depend on the town or city - there are those who provide a monthly pension and birthday gift plus Christmas gift.
Privileges of seniors over here: Arthritis Frequent trips to the bath room Forgetfulness Discounts at places we never go to Loss of energy
Yeah, that's a good laugh you gave us. Let me share a post in Facebook that I read sometime ago... Seniors are given discount on food because we are selective with food now, can't eat anything anymore. We are privileged to watch movies for free but we have poor eyesight and poor hearing as well so that's not really a benefit. And there is this crazy guy in the government who gave seniors 50% discount in motels, huh. (that last one is really a joke, motel here means you go there with your partner to have sex).
Ha ha, enjoyed all the comments! @Corie Henson , it does sound pretty good in the Philippines....is it? We get a very small discount at the movies and only handicapped have shorter lines. Also no gifts.
ROFL! Good thread, @Corie Henson -- great response, @Sheldon Scott. My wife recently got a handicapped placard and she is enjoying the heck out of it. Only a month ago, we were complaining because some businesses have no nearby parking for anyone who isn't handicapped and, in one month, she has become one of the biggest handicapped parking nazis around.
Today I saw a old man going across a rather busy street pushing one of those personal carts you can buy. He was going against the light. I guess his privilege was either color blindness or not caring if he died. That's not bad Corie Henson. Probably better than we get here in the U.S..
Locally in Oahu, we get 5% at Foodland supermarkets on Thursdays. 5% at Ross Dept. Stores on Tuesdays. McDonalds has a $1 hot coffee for Seniors. Tuesdays we get 5% discounts at Don Quiote. In the magazine Generations there is a list of discounts for Seniors, but I remember the ones I would use. http://seniordiscounts.com/ is a site I found that I check once in a while. I go surfing the web every once in a while for discounts hoping for something new all the time. Philippines has lot more discounts and benefits for Seniors! Lucky you!
Well many restaurants and theaters here in the US give discounts to seniors. Some of the senior discounts start at age 55 and some are 62 and above. That is one thing about growing older the ability to save money on things! Some companies may even offer discounts if you ask for them. Recently, a friend was getting his septic tank pumped out, and he asked out of the blue "Do you have any senior discounts?" Whereupon the guy said, yeah we can knock 10 percent off the bill. The moral of the story is, Ask and ye shall often receive !
Here in Britain we receive free bus passes and a £12 annual pass on our underground Metro. Discounts on cinema and theatre tickets. Our health service is free. Personally we have received a number of expensive operations and thousands of pounds of free prescriptions.
A lot of stores, restaurants, and businesses, such as theaters, have senior discounts here but they almost never have signs and they don't tell you about the discounts unless you ask. My wife does that, but I generally pay full price because I feel funny asking for discounts.
Ken you should not feel funny asking for discounts. Its like a verbal coupon without all the fuss. You earned it ..but you have to ask for it
I don't get free bus passes, ..I won't be entitled until I reach official retirement age of 67 ...4 years yet!! ...and no £12 pass on the London underground...blimey , I wish.... ..perhaps I should move up North..
