@Holly Saunders I used just an old Canon rebel with 200X tele stabilizer lens out all the way. I finally found a setting that would capture the detail. I found the only way to get moon photos with my lack of camera knowledge is to have a street light behind me. It gives the camera enough light without effecting the photo to get the right shutter speed. I tried all those manual setting and what a mess. I love digital because I take over 100 photos to get one worth saving.
I'm an avid hobbyist photographer, and have used digital for decades now, and you're right, it makes it so much easier to get the right photo without the expense and the faff of film. ''Real '' photographers prefer ''Raw with film'' ,, but like I say I'm just someone who loves to take photos..and do so at every opportunity. I take my camera and phone everywhere with me. However I've never been able to take a really good photo of the moon unfortunately!!
@Bess Barber Thank you! I was so lucky and had been practicing moon shots knowing NASA had announced this was the closest full blood moon I would see ever as the moon is getting further away every day. I wished I had used a tripod as the detail would be clearer.
Two shots of the moon when the pink moon was seen recently. This one I used a small tripod. The first shot I braced against a patio frame. I did not see a pink moon although I understand it didn't show pink until later. And the next day on television I did see a pink moon. My shot was taken just after moon rise and just after it had cleared the eve of my house, around 9:40 P.M.
It did not show pink where I live either, Bill, but, like you, i saw pictures the next day where it did show some pink.
Very nice shot. I've been into very amateur astronomy since I was a kid. The moon is spectacular when viewed through a pair of binoculars. I believe the blood moon has a role in The Fall of the House of Usher.
