From major stores to Mom and Pop's . Here is one just reported in El Monte, CA a family owned store and check the video..... A family owned Jewelry Store fought off a smash/grab Robber who sprayed some of them with Bear Spray and in fighting him off, ripped off some clothes he wore. This was a 1 person attempt. We've not had that issue in Virginia, but there are some Commonwealth Attorneys that would let people like that go with a slap on the wrist, should such a case cross their desks. And if they did, our State Attorney General would likely step in. All that goes away when the next administration takes office.
I understand that many in California who defend themselves and their property are the ones being prosecuted.
Not that I have heard about. So many people here arm armed and we have such good gun laws with respect to defending yourself, the I doubt it would happen much, at least outside of Anchorage, the Portland wannabe.

Nope, cops aren't interested, even though it says "Protect & Serve" on their police cars. During the L.A. riots, cops just sat in their cars, smiling at looters as they ran by. I was waiting for cops to help the looters carry their stolen goods.
The cops in CA know if they go to the trouble of making an arrest, the perpetrators will be set free by the DA so why bother.
Virginia Delegates have passed 40 anti-gin bills that have nothing to do with crime, and refused to even discuss 3 "Get Tough On Actual Criminals" statutes put forth by the other party. Dems are literally putting our lives at risk so that we will do whatever they want to "make us safe."
I should just note that Oakland, California, has always been pretty unsafe. At least, it was back in the 2000s. That was before San Francisco went under. Not asking for an answer, but what happened to this beautiful state?
