I had some beet puree in the freezer left from last years crop so I used a recipe for sweet potato cake plus an idea from another recipe and made a beet cake. Turned out really good.
I have never though of doing that; but I bet it was a beautiful cake, @Sheldon Scott . I have used fresh beets when making a smoothies before, and it added a rich, earthy taste to the smoothie, and made it a beautiful (almost raspberry) color, somewhere between pink and purple. How did it taste ?
I got up early ( way too early ) got a cup of coffee and came here. Then had a bowl of cereal and decided to make a sweet potato cake. It's in the oven now and here I am with a second cup of coffee.
Now you will be able to have a hot piece of sweet potato cake with your third cup of coffee, Sheldon. Sounds delicious ! !
Sweet potato cake...sounds yummy @Sheldon Scott. I have a recipe for pineapple sweet potato bread that is delicious too and now I'm going to have to go buy the ingredients for it since you've made me hungry for some.
Is Sweet Potato pie a "Southern states" food? Never heard of it when living in Indiana, California, Colorado or even here in northeastern Florida. Anyway, but way too "sugary" for us (Diabetic II).
From what I know, some Southern food can be might hot and spicy tasting. Ever heard of Louisiana Hot Sauce?
