[IMG]Australia's natural wonder The Great Barrier Reef was once home to the world's first floating hotel, and over the past 30 years it's been on a wild ride, from Singapore to the Great Barrier Reef — and eventually to North Korea.

From early 1988, you could book a room in this five-star hotel as it gently drifted over John Brewer Reef, about 70km off the coast of Townsville, Qld.

The hotel was the brainchild of Townsville developer Doug Tarca. and was built in Singapore.

The seven-storey structure had nearly 200 rooms, and was decked out with a glowing neon nightclub, bars and restaurants, a helipad and a tennis court.

The unique venture tho hit many problems.. a cyclone, a fire and poor communication to the mainland.. plus dropping visitors.

The debt built and it was sold to Vietnam to be reborn as the Saigon Floating Hotel. where it stayed for several years before again being sold. The hotel today belongs to North Korea and it now sits corroding in the port of Kumgang.

It looks really cool, but what differentiates it from being a uniquely shaped cruise ship?
