Thank you @Babs Hunt yes we are familiar with the Mayflower from our history lessons. So presumably you still celebrate the birth of Christ?. I know dates can alter depending on denomination.
Well I can tell you @Honey Gee that I definitely celebrate the birth of Christ, but that day that we are supposed to celebrate His birth has become the celebration of Santa Claus, christmas trees, spending money on presents that you end up paying for all through the New Year, etc. What used to be Christ's Birthday is not really Christ's Birthday anymore. I think we should just give December 25th over to all Santa and Christmas trees and commercialism and materialism....and pick another day and call it the Birthday of Jesus Christ because the Christmas that is celebrated on December 25th is about everything but Jesus Christ.
Actually, one interesting article that I read, which talks about the alignment of the stars mentioned in the Bible at the time of Jesus' birth, suggests that he was actually born in September. December 25 has always been one of the pagan holy days, so it is not so much a matter of giving it back to them, as just not helping them celebrate their holiday. That it has become all a commercial time is sad though, because Christmas was the time of year that I used to most look forward to.
Yes, in my research I have always found that Bible Scholars pretty much agree Jesus was born no where near December 25th and that September would be around the time His birth occurred. What has happened to Christmas is a tragedy as far as I am concerned....and I would love to see Jesus' Birthday (and not called Christmas) celebrated nearer to when He actually was born.
In Spain we celebrate on the 5th January. Three kings day. Just an excuse for us Brits to have another party.
