My Dad sent away for one when I was a small kid. Think they were made in England. Self-contained, reusable blade with sharpening strops facing either side inside the metal container, which was about 6 inches long, 3/4 inch thick, and 3 inches wide. Ever seen one? I've seen the Rolls, but cannot recall where. I've shopped tons of second hand stores in my life, but get the feeling I've seen it as a personal possession of a family member. The earliest memory I have of my father's kit was the double-edged disposable...and he used a soap cup and brush.
@John Brunner When one closed our bathroom door, that exposed a strap (strop?), leather I think it was, hanging on a hook on the door. Occasionally, I saw my Dad stropping his razor. Once, he held up the long strap, and asked, "You see this?" I knew what he meant! Frank
