..I fully believe, if something doesn't change. Faint of heart, or those that don't like seeing where we could be heading, don't watch:
I don't either, but I didn't know what it was going to be. I know it's weird and creepy, but so are the way things are going. Did you notice it had BIG Tech, AI, BIG Pharma, and BIG Government? Probably BIG MSM too but not in the 10 minute clip that I noticed.
Description from IMDB: In the year 2154, the very wealthy live on a man-made space station while the rest of the population resides on a ruined Earth. A man takes on a mission that could bring equality to the polarized worlds.
Well Denise we tried to warm everyone, but do they listen, Noooooooooo. All kidding aside I may give it a look later.
I just thought the Big Pharma "pill offering" from an AI, Elitists living in their beautiful protected world, while the rest of Earth is made slaves for them in a hell on Earth "prison" is pretty prophetic. I'm betting there were some Elitists dreaming their dream about this movie. I wouldn't have expected it to ever come true, but too many things going on that keep reminding me of this movie.
It sounds quite feasable. However, if you look at predictions for the future of the earth, it's not like that at all. There will be a dramatic drop in the world's population because of pollution and disease. People will not travel very far from their homes and will live in small settlements, farming the land and raising animals. This will allow the earth to heal itself from the damage caused by humans. Then the whole process will start again.
I've mentioned this a few times. The birth rates--and therefore, population levels--of 1st World Nations have been declining for 2-3 decades. Our birth rates are below Replacement Level, meaning that--absent immigration--our numbers are declining. Africa and India (primarily) are the cause of "the world's population" increasing. It seems that once civilizations achieve a level of advancement, humans just naturally have fewer children. Once we're shielded from the forces of nature, we reach a point of stasis. I wonder where the birth rate (and population levels) might level off, absent outside [political] forces and influences.
It bothers me how people shy away from these cautionary tales in favor of pap sports, soaps, and shows that do nothing but promote conspicuous consumption like those gardening and homes shows. This movie was good, but hardly the first of its kind. Go back to Soylent Green for example, or Silent Running, or even Falling Down, and so many more. Even the original Planet of the Apes franchise was a warning. Watch 1998's Soldier and pay attention as you do. Or 1998's Enemy of the State and precursors like 1974's The Conversation and 1975's Three Days of the Condor and so many others.
I saw this thread and thought I would add a few more precursors, as well as links to where you could watch them if you wanted: THX1138 ( https://archive.org/details/thx-1138_202304) Colossus The Forbin Project ( https://archive.org/details/classic...970s/Colossus+-+The+Forbin+Project+(1970).mp4) (There is also some other great 1970's sci-fi at this site). 1984 ( https://archive.org/details/StudioOne19841953) This is not the movie with John Hurt and Richard Burton. This is an earlier treatment of the book made for a 1950's TV show called Studio One starring Eddie Alpert and Lorne Greene. And mention has to be made of the silent film era classic Metropolis ( METROPOLIS Fritz Lang New Version 2022 New English Intertitles & Music Soundtrack 4 K : Fritz Lang - 1927 : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive). FYI Internet Archive has some great stuff. You just need to hunt for it.
