This is still kind of breaking news thus far, as there seems to be only speculation about why he was killed. Brian Thompson was the CEO of the United Healthcare company and he was on a way to a meeting when he was deliberately shot down and killed. The video shows Thompson walking down the sidewalk, and then the shooter comes up behind him with a gun and starts shooting. He shot several times, and it looks like he has to do something with the gun in between each shot. Speculation is that this was either because of a special kind of round being used or because of the silencer, or just because the shooter needed to get the casings each time so that they would not fall out and be left behind. Apparently, Thompson was facing some kind of DOJ hearing, and there were some kind of issues with the insurance company earlier this fall, so there is speculation that the assassination was to prevent Thompson from testifying. I remember reading that Alabama (or at least the Huntsville Hospital system) were no longer accepting UHC for insurance after the end of this year, but I didn’t read why that happened. This assassination is making it look like there was more involved. After shooting Thompson, it looks like the shooter makes sure he is dead, and then leaves, so this was definitely NOT any kind of a robbery or unintentional shooting.
I read that the guy was in town (NYC) specifically for their yearly investor conference. There was speculation that his itinerary was "leaked," but I don't think that there is any secret to this annual event. According to his wife, the guy had been receiving threats from people who had issues with their [health care] coverage. He started with UHC in 2004 as the company’s chief of Medicare and Medicaid services, and was made CEO of the entire organization in 2021. United Healthcare is the largest health insurance company in the United States and is considered one of the largest corporations in the world. Regarding the shooter: I was listening to FOX News XM and they said that police confirmed the guy used a bicycle from the common-use fleets that some cities provide (ride to your destination and leave it there), and that they each have some sort of GPS tracking device on them. But if that's the case, one would think they would have tracked the guy down pretty quickly. And I've heard nothing of such a bike elsewhere.
I find this interesting. I have no experience with United, but my brother sings their praises for the way he was treated when his wife had cancer and subsequently died. They covered everything that Medicare did not. He didn't pay a penny for the thousands of dollars of treatments.
This seems to be one of the things being speculated about, for sure ! If he was going to have to reveal something in the DOJ investigation that someone didn’t want revealed. They would know exactly where and when to find him to shoot him. The shooter shot several times as he followed Thompson down the street, and the last shot looked like he was standing right over him as he shot. Or he might have just been making sure that he was dead. They did get some camera shots of the shooter, but it might be hard to identify him from the pictures they showed on the news. Since he apparently used a silencer and maybe special ammunition, it really seems like it could have been a professional hit, and not some disgruntled person whose medical claim didn’t get paid. We had UHC for several years for our medicare advantage plan, and they always paid for my medical bills just fine. But for there to be a DOJ investigation, something must have been going on. Now reading that he was being investigated for insider trading, and that UHC had sold off millions of dollars and not told investors, and that is why the government investigation. Also interesting , and may or may not be related, but the CEO’s of Waffle House and of Texas Roadhouse also died this week. The Waffle House CEO died at age 58 from reported illness, and the Roadhouse CEO committed suicide.
I was gonna ask if he denied one of her claims. If they claim it was suicide, we'll know for sure. Grate minds...
My goodness it just keeps getting crazier and crazier. This has to be one of the most dangerous nations to live in now, crime, drugs, drive Bys assassinations.
No, we're still very safe. Just avoid the known pockets of violence that most cities in the world have.
Almost as bad as Hillary Clinton, it is possible that the trail goes back to Nancy Pelosi, at least she is in the rumor mill about the shooting. Last February, UHC had a cybersecurity attack and break-in. I think I kind of remember reading about that and that some identification information was stolen in the cyber attack. Pelosi then made purchases of “call options” on Palo Alto Security, the company that was chosen to investigate the cyber attack on UHC. I don’t have any idea what call options are, but I am guessing that this is something that she did and made money from doing it. Whether this has anything to do with the killing of the CEO remains to be seen, but it does look possible that she is somehow involved in whatever is going on in the big picture of all this.
About 10 or more years ago I was up all-night reading, 'The Clinton Body Bags', I couldn't believe how obvious it was who was 'likely 'responsible. It was like they didn't really even try to hide it.
John your being funny, right? I don't know of anywhere that is safe from crime. People are on edge and even a trip to the grocery store can be dangerous to your health now. How dare you drive the speed limit, and in a van, double jeopardy.
It shouldn't be long before someone steps forward to ID the shooter. From a Starbuck's video camera...
