    I like spending less money for a fixer-upper, and just came across this one for sale. It might just tax my ingenuity; my wife is very dubious......three-hundred bucks, '93 Honda Civic. These cars are supposedly very well built! Frank

    You have way more ambition than I have, Frank. I very much considered buying an old VW bug that was offered for sale for $1000 near us but, although it ran and had a body that was in pretty good shape, we opted not to buy it, given that we have two cars as it is and, if we had need of another car, it should be more in the nature of something we can attach a plow to. When I think of a small car replacement, I think of a Volkswagen, a Mini Cooper, or a Smart Car.

    @Ken Anderson
    My main problem is that nearly all of my automotive experience lies in American-built cars many years ago, when virtually no vehicles made by the Big Three, nor any parts in them, were imported.
