We live right across the street from Redstone Arsenal, and they have put the whole arsenal on lockdown today with reports of a possible active shooter. At this point, nothing much in the way of information is being released, and some people are now being allowed to leave the arsenal, which employees around 40,000 people , plus the military personnel stationed there. The gate that is next to us is letting people out, and we still are hearing sirens; but there is no way to really tell if it is related to the shooter situation or not. The news reports that the coroner has not been notified of any deaths, and the hospital has not received any shooting casualties ; but if it was a matter of national security, they might not be able to say anything about it. One of the odd things is that (like so many other similar situations where police are involved) the arsenal had a drill for this scheduled for tomorrow; but they are saying that this is not a drill. I will update as soon as we get more information what is really going on. http://whnt.com/2017/06/27/emergenc...s-asking-people-to-avoid-the-sparkman-center/
They seem to be letting people get out of there now. So far we are not getting any definite information about what happened.
I'm not seeing any info either. Guess it takes time to gather....it may have had to do with the drill...not everybody being on the same page so to speak.
We are already out. Bobby had a doctor appointment this afternoon so we are at the doctors office. What ever is happening is not likely to get off of the arsenal. Thank you for worrying about us !
Just came across this and it's fairly recent. http://www.cnn.com/2017/06/27/us/alabama-redstone-arsenal/index.html
Fox is now reporting that there was apparently a false 911 call saying that there was a shooter at the Sparkman Center, and that is what started all of the lockdown. Since they were supposed to have a drill for an active shooter situation, I really think that this was probably actually a drill; but only certain people on the post knew it was a drill. The post itself seems not to be forthcoming with much information; but that is typical of what they do. A year or so ago, there was a huge explosion, and no one knows what it was. The City of Huntsville said they had no information, and the post said it wasn't anything that happened there. Eventually , they gave some kind of an explanation that they were blowing up old ammo, or something to that effect; so whatever really did happen, at least some people in charge at the post knew what the explosion was even though they denied it for at least a day. Robin is working out of state this week, and when I messaged her , she already knew all about it, so she must have had an alert, too.
They have been discussing this on the local radio program today, and it seems like there are several stories floating around about what really happened. While it appears that this was probably a drill that most people thought was a real situation, there are also reports that there was at least one active shooter, and some people thought there were two shooters. Another story is that it was a domestic argument, and one person shot their spouse. However, another story is that there were hostages, and yet another version is that up to 13 people were actually either shot or killed ; but the news is being kept covered up. There were apparently two calls to 911 about the incident, one call reporting that they heard shots being fired, and the other caller said they saw someone with a weapon. There was a General there giving some kind of a lecture, and he was told about the shooter, and just went on with the lecture like nothing was wrong. Apparently, there was another incident about a week ago where they arrested someone in Huntsville (but not on the arsenal) of planning a terrorist attack, and that person was Islamic. I. Have no idea if that was related to this incident or not; but now it is being discussed along with yesterday's lockdown. The news station said that the whole thing is still being investigated; but at this point, we might not find out what actually happened.
