Soon, long haul trucking will be done by driverless rigs. Accident rates will go down. I'd like to hear what you think. Is AI a threat or unalloyed good? Personally I think that we need to stay on top of AI or it will end up on top of us.

The less mankind has to do, the less mankind will be able to do.

Just remember that the opposite of artificial intelligence is real stupidity, which is something that's been abundant of late.

That and ignorance. It has already been established that our progeny can no longer make change without looking at a computer. The mantra of the day is: the internet knows everything. All we have to do is to learn to push buttons.

What you're saying is that if and when the lights go out, that progeny will be incredibly stupid and mostly useless, to an extent greater than they are today..

Half of 20 somethings can't find Australia on a unmarked globe. When the questioner pointed to Canada, quite a few thought it was Russia. The PsTB have succeeded in raising a generation of woke brain-dead morons - ideal corporate slaves who believe anything they're told by government or CNN. Thinking is sometimes hard and painful but most of the young just want easy, instant gratification. To paraphrase, a mind is a terrible thing to waste and a wasted mind is a terrible thing. It's a darnned shame and I can't think of a solution.

Note John, I didn’t write stupid even though yes, we all know that stupidity is on the rise.
I wrote ignorant in this case due to the fact that when people are uninformed they are functionally ignorant which is actually the greater danger.

Ignorance is a lack of information and a lack of information inhibits logic, a fundamental ability that we need to connect the dots so to speak.
If, in the instance when there is no need to have certain pieces of knowledge because AI is doing what we used to do, then that which logic profoundly depends on to come up with a solution is no longer existent.

It’s kind of an oxymoron I guess.
No one can fix stupid but ignorance can be remedied with teaching. But if teachers are ignorant of certain facts then the student will also be ignorant and ill prepared. As ignorance goes, ignorance grows.

If find it interesting to believe that there can be something created that out-thinks its creator. Maybe it can process data faster, but "learning" involves more than that. And Lord help us if empathy is programmed out.
