We are a big and ever growing group of folks that represent a Goldmine to many businesses. Companies specializing in supplements for insomnia, nutrition, joint & muscle pain, medical insurance supplements, depression, memory, our personal care. The marketing staff here where I live are constantly promoting ways to encourage seniors to move here like first month free rent if you sign up by a deadline date. Two free months rent for a referral that signs up. Keeping our apartments occupied and full is a full time job. Empty apartments represent no income or profit. Care facilities in the same city compete with one another for business.

My biggest gripe is that this time of year we are bombarded by irritating "Medicare Supplement" phone calls. Between the election and the medicare calls I have had to turn off the ringer on our land line phone.

It's not only the irritating phone calls it's the email too.

It kinda makes me feel all warm and fuzzy that so many people are concerned for my well being.

Actually, I worked hard all my life thus far and I deserve that senior discount at the restaurant. Now I just wish that my local hardware store would get on that train.
As for the other ad stunts, they must be working or the advertisers would stop putting up ads. Plus, they keep a bunch of senior movie stars working. I mean, it would be a shame to see Tom Selleck working as a greeter at Walmart instead of selling reverse mortgages.

They want your $$$ and don't care if you feel warm and fuzzy.

I complain to hubby because he insists we keep the landline. However keeping it with a voice mail on it...we don't answer it unless it someone we know. Most everyone uses our cell numbers.
Sometimes there are ten calls in one day from Medicare would be people, and surveys an election crap.
Amway nice not having answer it. We given out the home number only to those whom we have no intention of talking to;)

It does seem like businesses find out Seniors income and credit line and go after them thru calls, e-mails and regular mail.

Right now, there is a whole lot of Medicare Supplements advertisements on tv, then again, it's that time of year. Be darn glad when the enrollment date is finally ended.

We keep our land line because it's "bundled" with our Comcast services and is practically free, plus we have had that number for nearly 30 years. We have the NoMoRobo call blocking so that filters out a lot of crap calls, but we still get dozens of political and medicare calls this time of year.

I found that AARP is a great offender, when it comes to marketing garbage to older folks who join up. I had to call the main HQ to get my name removed from their junk mail list, and it wasn't easy to get through. I no longer have the number, because I just wanted to forget the whole debacle.
