I watched "The Man That Shot Liberty Vallance" last night starring Jimmy Stewart,John Wayne, Lee Marvin. The movie was filmed in black and white to give it more of a dramatic effect. And it worked. Good Film.
The Man WHO Shot Liberty Valance. One of my favorites. I watched a "Thin Man" flick, again, a few days ago. I've seen them all. A very young Jimmy Stewart was in one.
Are you referring to "Thin Man" movies or the TV show with Peter Lawford? I used to watch the television show all the time as a kid, but don't recall any movies. Regarding the original topic: I watch a lot of black & white tv shows, but don't watch many movies in general. I guess it would have to be some of the old horror movies that are played on the cheesy Saturday night shows.
The movies. Famous series of movies with Myrna Loy and William Powell. If you've never seen them, and you like 30's/40's high society stuff, check 'em out. They're a good time!
Thanks! Now I remember those movies. But I shall always have Peter Lawford and Phyllis Kirk imprinted as the "real" Nick & Nora. Kinda like Basil Rathbone shall always be Sherlock Holmes (although Jeremy Brett is a darned close second.)
Except for the Gunsmoke movies, all of the Gunsmoke tv shows I watch are in black/white. One movie that we watch that was in total black and white: Schindler's List. Then again, I have watched some documentaries on WWII/Hitler Regime, Indian Wars that were in black and white. There are also some war movies that include real clips in black and white.
I watch 2 or 3 movies from "Turner Classic Movies" every day. (Ch. 256 on DIRECTV) They are mostly from the "Classic" era of movies, (1930's & 1940's), and are in B&W. I feel that these films employed the best Actors and Directors of all time. Hal
