I was born in Wheeling, the northern industrial region of West Virginia. (Steel Mills, Coal Mines, Railroading, Glass Works)

We lived in a large residential section called Wheeling Island, because it was an island in the Ohio River.

When the Ohio flooded, sometimes nearly the entire Island would be under water. When I was born in 1936, that was the year of one of the greatest floods in Wheeling history, and we had to relocate to higher ground away from the Island. We came to California in 1944 and I've lived here ever since.

Here's a picture of Wheeling Island.

WWVA Jamboree was much like the Grand Ole Opera. I went there one time and also browsed the market that accompanies it. It was a good time. I was dating a girl in Beaver, PA at the time.
