And a most hearty Merry Christmas to all of you!! Oh yes, may our friends across the pond have an extraordinarily wonderful Boxing Day as well!!
When I lived in Hungary those 6 years the 26th was also a holiday but don't think it was called Boxing Day. I'll have to look it up,to find out why it was a holiday.
The 26th is the day most Catholics celebrate St. Stephan but perhaps the Church in Hungary also recognizes someone else but I dunno.
Still don't know... maybe also Boxing Day? Christmas in Hungary is somewhat different and this is how we always celebrated when I was a child...kept the tradition going with my kids but at one point it got difficult when they started school because for Hungarians Santa wasn't on Christmas..Jesus bought the gifts Christmas Eve. St. Nicholas Day is dec 6 and I did that also with my kids for awhile....put shoes out and get a few presents in them. My daughter kept the Christmas Eve tradition for awhile but with Santa. http://www.budapest-discovery-guide.com/hungarian-christmas-traditions.html Of course during the years of communism...Santa was Father winter or something like that.
Just thinking about it...don't know how my mom did it because the Christmas tree was also bought by Jesus and wasn't put up until Christmas Eve. Then we saw everything all at once ...tree and presents.."it was truly MAGICAL!
