    Saw on our news last night a man, who had lost both his hands in machinery at work - has been
    given two hands (by a donor) and surgeons have successfully attached them for him
    The work just fine - now isn't that just bloomin marvellous !

    Yeah, that's great news because accidents can happen to anyone. But my question is the donor, more likely the hands were from a dead person? Over here, there are lots of people with less fingers and less hand maybe due to the firecrackers. It is a New Year tradition to light up fireworks and firecrackers. Those careless ones end up with a lost finger or fingers and sometimes a full hand.

    I have read a news item some weeks ago where a Chinese surgeon will attempt to transplant a head to a body. Of course, the head is the one alive and it will be attached to a dead body that is supposed to still be alive. The reporter opined that if that would be successful then that would eclipse the magnitude of a heart transplant which is already considered a sort of medical miracle.

    @Corie Henson
    Yes Corie - as this was successful they are now asking for donors of 'limbs' (those that have passed on)
    I also heard about a head transplant, doesn't seem at all possible. They have managed two face transplants so far
    The future, medical wise - is looking good :)

    The surgeon miracles that are being performed in most all surgeries and the ideas of helping people I salute.
    Devil’s advocate is people [doctors] can be corrupted, people like George Soros are on their fifth heart and a lot of Chinese are getting body parts in illegal ways.
    I would not like to go to the hospital with I am a donor on my driver’s licence and at the same time some billionaire needs body parts even if it was only a wood sliver in my finger.

    There was this guy named Andoy who is a convicted criminal. For reparation, he donates his body parts to those patients in need. The first was his kidney followed by a quarter of his liver. And then he donated his foot and leg up to the knee to a billionaire. His last donation was his left hand but did not push through because the warden protested, "Andoy, I already know your trick. You are escaping little by little."

    PS. That's a joke, hahahaaah.

    @Martin Alonzo
    I know nothing about the Chinese surgeons, the operations I mention are performed over here (London and surrounding areas)

    It's not just the Chinese, @Martin Alonzo, but there's a market internationally for those in need of body parts, and many desperate people. I think we've all heard about the tourists who end up in bathtubs of ice, missing a kidney. I saw a show recently that talked about the organ trade in India. I would imagine many a millionaire and billionaire would be happy to get an organ for him or herself or a loved one, without questioning too hard where the part came from. There's actually a story line on a daytime serial I watch on the subject right now. I honestly don't have a problem with someone donating a kidney for money if they're in need and their other one is fully functioning (although of course that can change), and I would probably donate one to a loved one if they needed it, but I'm not sure mine are in great shape anyway, so that probably would never come to pass.

    I love stories like this where the person gets a chance at a better life, and we all get a bit of hope for the future. I have said that I'd like a whole body transplant, although I'm not sure my health issues wouldn't simply replicate in the new body, but it's nice to think perhaps at some point, that would be an available option. I think I'd rather somehow have my own body cloned and cleaned up to be healthier, then my head transplanted onto it, than to have it put on a dead body.
