Watching 'In Harm's Way' this morning. John Wayne and Kirk Douglas. Can't go wrong with those two. The opening shots of Sandy beach and Makapuu beach remind me of when I lived on Oahu.
@Holly Saunders - Watched the film Holly and enjoyed it. It was familiar to me, must have seen 'many' years ago
Just watched the movie "High Noon" again. I had to get a look at that second story window with the air conditioner hanging out of it. It sure as heck looks like one. What else could it be?
I just watched an old western from the 1950s, and there's a scene where a puppet is sitting on a chair. I had to stop, back it up and freeze the frame to be sure, but the puppet is sitting on a blanket that has a swastika on it. I know that the swastika was used by some other groups before the Nazis, including an American Indian symbol, but I think the Indian symbol was a mirror image of the Nazi swastika. Either way, being produced so near the end of World War II, I would think they'd have been careful about the use of a swastika.
@Ike Willis I'm thinking the symbol was probably the left-facing one. The local library in the small town I lived in awhile back, came across a Rudyard Kipling book with the left-facing swastika on the facing page and pulled the book from the shelf. Kipling put them on his older copies for good luck. Nazi's used the right-facing symbol. I asked about buying the book, but they were going to ' get rid of it '. A shame. It was " The Man Who Would Be King ".
Saw another old western and in a room scene there was a table by a wall. The table had a kerosene lamp on it and a small section of electric cord ran over the table to the lamp. Can't remember the western now. Maybe a 'Bonanza'. I look for stuff like that.
TCM hooked me again. Just finished 'Casablanca' . 'Dark Passage' is on now, with 'Key Largo' due up. There goes the afternoon.
Watched an old movie last night (thanks to Joe) Irish Luck it was called. Never heard of the actors or the company It was a crazy film with a Cagney looky like - we enjoyed it
My favorites are, "To Kill A Mockingbird", "Grapes Of Wrath", "Casablanca," Anything B & W shrouded in mystery, suspense. Makes it all the more spooky.
While watching 2 old Sherlock Holmes movies this morning, at the beginning of 'The Woman in Green', Sherlock is in a night club and reaches over to add some seltzer to his drink. I thought an old, glass seltzer bottle would look good sitting on my bar. Just for decoration. Something like this: Off to ebay to see what's available.
