Since I use little salt anyway, Pickles always gets a little of any meat I'm eating. I don't cook separately for him but always give him something real. He's 8 and hasn't had any problems yet and hope it continues. I'm noticing a little grey around his snout though. In 8 yrs he hasn't even had one case of diarrhea! He has thrown up though and that's mainly because he scarfs anything he loves. It comes back looking like it just went down....meaning he didn't chew it.
I give my cats small amounts of whatever I'm eating too, within reason, but salted foods aren't good for them on a regular basis. When I remember, I will bring cat treats to the table and give them that instead, when they beg. They don't seem to know the difference and, since they beg so cutely, I hate to turn them down. They don't annoy, they just look up at me with this needy look in their eyes. Cutie will sometimes tap me on the leg if she thinks I'm ignoring her. Moderation is a good thing in everything but politics.
Pickles sits and waits also....if I happen to be in my recliner eating and on the ipad, he's sitting next to me..drooling! Yuck, I don't always see it and then wonder why the seat is wet.
I've mentioned it before, in one of the threads here, but I will often cook whatever I may have cut off of our meal for them, without any spices. For example, I won't eat the fat in any kind of meat so rather than cutting it off at the table, I will sometime cut it off before our meal is prepared and either boil or bake it for them, and give them that when they are begging. Lydia, who has trouble with cat food, seems to do better with that and, of course, the others like it too.
Thanks @Ken Anderson. Well that makes me feel better. What better recommendation than from a former employee that has seen the formation of the product. It's weird, but around her you have to go to Pet Smart or other pet stores to buy Blue Buffalo. I haven't found it the grocery stores yet. I broil Izzy's chicken thighs up about every three or four days, and every once in awhile he will eat a little beef or pork, but not much or often. So I have high hopes for the Blue Buffalo. My grandson asked me if we could get a kitty after we get resettled. I have been wanting another cat since my last one passed at age 22, but I didn't feel right about the probability of my passing, and leaving the kitty to an unknown fate. Now that Bobert will care for Izzy and the new kitty when that time comes, I'm getting excited about having a new kitten.
Same here. I get it either at Petco or Petsmart, usually. Hannaford, our local grocery store, carried four brands of premium cat food a couple of years ago, but the Paul Newman brand is the only one they carry now. I guess people don't buy quality pet foods from the grocery store.
I think that different grocery stores carry different products, depending on what kind of area they are in. I have found that some things my store didn't carry were in the larger "super Kroger" that is in madison where the nicer homes are at. And when I was looking for dried peas to make soup, they didn't have those at all in the Madison store; but they did carry them at my usual store here. A while back, I was testing a Purina Beyond grain-free dog food, and they sent me a coupon to use at Krogers. I had to go to several stores before I found one that carried this particular dog food. They did have Purina brand, but only the cheaper varieties and not the expensive one that I was trying with the BzzAgent campaign. You might check Amazon for Izzy's Blue Buffalo, @Ina I. Wonder . They do carry it, and it is delivered right to your house, and it might even be cheaper than what you are paying at the pet store for his food. There are a lot of varieties of Blue Buffalo shown on Amazon, and here is a sample to give you an idea of prices and what is available there.
