Where Do You Get The Pictures?

I was wondering where some of the members on here get those pictures they include with their post..
I mean some.... for example ... birthday cakes, candles, Xmas scenes, and even some cartoons that are very interesting..

With the Jewish New Year coming up, it would be nice to include a picture of something with my wishes..

I don't think this thread applies to me because I only post our own pictures which were taken by our camera. Some writer friends say that it is all right to use pictures of others like those you see in Google but you have to include a note of where you got them. And to be safe against infringement of rights, it has been our habit to post only our pictures whether in forums or in social media.

PS. The most recent photo that I posted is the pack of cashew nuts which came from our camera.

 

Just google them steve...whatever subject you want a picture of, enter it into the search bar ...then click on ''images'' underneath the search bar and pictures will appear


For example... enter Ladies bike into google, ..click search...then ''images'' and this is what you'll get...





When you find what you want ...
Save the picture to somewhere on your computer.. eg..''my pictures'' or make a folder on your desktop and save them to there..

Then it's just a matter of uploading them to this forum...using the ''upload file'' button next to the 'reply' button.

Once you've ''clicked upload file, a pop up box next to your picture will appear at the bottom of this reply page.. saying ''Thumbnail and Full image.

Click on either one...and it will post straight onto the forum..then remember to ''post' your post as usual..


There are other ways to do it.. for example saving pictures to a Photo hosting site like Photobucket...which is what I do...but the former is by far the easiest and quickest method for a novice !

 

how about those like birthday cards, new year, xmas, and other occasions .......
The more simple ones that one can get from Google and post on here..
I had a site on the older computer, but when they transferred from the old to here, I lost it.. It was a site that when opened it gave many options and each option had hundreds of little pictures to choose from..

For example, go to the "Happy Passover" thread and you will see several of the pictures I am talking about.. Just an example......

 

Steve, I use Photobucket.com. You can save your own pictures there and also find a gazillion pictures & cartoons by other people. If you want to use PB, I'll help you all I can.

 

I get my photos and clip art from bing.com and I click the image button and ask for "free" whatever the theme I need. Whether it's birthday wishes, Happy Hanukkah, wedding wishes, sympathy card, whatever kind of photo or picture or clip art you like pops up and you choose one...the word is to add "free" so no infringement is done. Another place I found for absolutely free animation is http://www.webweaver.nu/. It's not easy to find too these absolutely free sites for animation or pics, so sometimes when you got the time, if nothing suits you where I've mentioned you can put in your favorite search engine, I like bing.com because you can get rewards...it changed to microsoft rewards now, and use the word "free" again and ask the search engine for they type of pic, clip art or photo you need. I usually just google whatever I want and use the google image. I am not sure it is completely legit to do that, but that is what I do. It seems to take care of the issue and google has thousands of images for sure. They can spare a few..I have no problem with using some of them.

I use my own images from my computer, mostly shots taken with our digital camera. To do so, as @Shirley Martin suggests, an image processing service assigns an URL to the image you want to post here.

Another thing I do often is copy some image of interest on, say, a news site. For example, look here: https://www.yahoo.com/style/mcdonalds-loaded-fries-totally-over-160205500.html and see the image I've copied there, below:




To do that, all one need do is right click w/cursor on image, then left click "copy", come back to your forum post, and hold "ctrl" and press "v".

Another thing to do, if seeking something specific, is search that item by name, saying, (example) "scorpion images". Pick one you like, same deal:

I don't have a digital camera.. The camera I have takes film and it is totally impossible up here to buy film and to get it developed is another mortgage.. The roll of film is sent to Toronto to develop.. Takes up to 6 weeks and costs around $50.00 for a 24 exposure plus shipping and handling...
forget it !!!
What I was looking for is something like Kris has posted but with perhaps more options..
something I can use a picture of and insert it on here on a post .....

So, our old stand-by cameras are now also obsolete, along with developable film, negatives, etc. Given that you are using a computer, you still have the option of finding, viewing, copying, an image of your choice. Go to any "search engine", like Google or Yahoo, enter the object, person, thought, metaphor, just about anything at all, followed by "images", and you will be inundated.

Are those images transferrable to the sites we have on here and if so, how do you suggest I do it..
There seems to be an option that asks weather you want full size or (something else) in the size of the picture.. I always click on full size.. Is that the proper way to do it ??

 

@Steve North If you have not noticed, many of the pics I have posted are grainy, and of poor quality. That is because they are from the stacks of old photographs I have, of things I've built, etc. No digital stuff yet, just plain old developed pictures. Here's how I post those:

You need a scanner, usually part and parcel of a printer/scanner/copier nowadays. We just bought a new one last week, Wal-Mart $39.99. You stick an old photograph under the hood, it scans it and places the image in your computer, stored and waiting for you to do something with it. You can then do various manipulations on it, "crop" it, enhance quality or color, print it on any old paper you have, email it to someone, or submit it to one of the many sites which will assign an URL to it, they are free, which then allows it to be posted here. I use www.servimg.com. Some prefer www.photobucket.com. I tried that one long ago with not very good results. Let me go to one of my old photographs, and I will post it below.



It's a '65 Mustang I converted to 4-wheel drive back in 1976. Note the color is poor, as is quality in general. That's partly due to the fact that I did not scan that photo until recently, when it was 30+ years old already! I'll be glad to provide more help, if I may. Just ask! Frank

PS: Regarding size, most forums want images to be no wider than 600 pixels. Servimg automatically sizes them to that size for forum use (or any other size you tell them is wanted). Sizing is tricky, and somnewhat beyond me still. I do have a site which resizes images for you, if you ever need that.

 

@Ken Anderson ...we really shouldn't be using the images we find on google or Bing, right? I try to get ones that don't have any stamps on them or words.

What's the word for the stamp on an image...my mind has gone blank....I do know it though.

Most people do use them on forums though....to me looking for an image is part of the fun.
