The president of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte, made perhaps his most controversial remark on record Friday -- openly musing about killing 3 million drug users, and likening himself to Adolf Hitler. "If Germany had Hitler, the Philippines would have...," Duterte said in a press conference, then pausing and pointing to himself. story kill the pushers. I have no sympathy for drug dealers who deal in misery, pain and death. he also called Obama an SOB
To be honest, I have voted for our president during the May elections. But I am a person who is fair and I have never been a fanatic. I always call a spade, a spade and black is black and can never be whiter. President Duterte is overdoing his bravado not to mention the expletives his mouth makes every time he gets irritated. With his recent pronouncements, I guess we will be reaping the "rewards" sooner or later.... 1) wanting to shift trading to China and Russia 2) ending the military exercises with US military forces 3) harsh statements against UN 4) and now comparing himself with Hitler. I have this feeling that so many are now losing their belief in our president because of his indecent behavior and rash statements.
I will say it again I like this guy he puts his country and people first and does not bow down to the almighty dollar. He acutely exposed the bribe given to him by John Kerry to be an American puppet. The money made by these drug cartels leave that country and goes somewhere else. If you get a country hooked on drugs than you control them. Easy to see what England did to China. Who is protecting the poppy fields in Afghanistan? This president probably knows what is going on God protect this man.
He is at war with the Army of Drug pushers. It is a real war with many deaths so far. He is taking the offensive. I like him, also.
If the opening post replaced 'users' with 'pushers', I might get on board. I worked in the field long enough to see the damage drugs do to individuals, families, communities, and our society and country in general. Obviously we're not the only country experiencing these issues. As long as the 'war on drugs' has been going on, we are not winning, and more and more people become addicted. The answer is not to legalize drugs, as many think. The answer is to eradicate those selling the poison, and provide treatment to those who need to detoxify themselves of it and overcome their addiction. I do think he's overdoing it a bit with the theatrics, but I'm glad he's talking about the problem and seems to care about his country.
He's a hard liner and there's nothing wrong with that unless you take it too far. Some things need a strong stance But I also agree with @Diane Lane about the difference between users and pushers. I'm pretty darn sure most users would give anything to be drug free. It's not even about getting high anymore for them, it's just to function. Also, these pushers will probably end up killing him, so he better be well protected.
My take on the drug business is my belief in the law of supply and demand. To stop the trade, either of the 2 (supply or demand) should be stopped. In the case of the ongoing cleansing of our country against drugs, those killed are drug pushers and drug users. And although there are some isolated cases that innocent people were killed by cops with a rash judgment, I still think that what's going on is the only way to eradicate drugs in our country. The only problem I see is when the over-eager cops start to go out of line and become abusive.
@Joe Riley How can we be certain, or rather is it a certainty, that innocent folks will not be included, rounded up and eliminated, based on local levels of personal hatred, etc.?
@Corie Henson Personally, I have no problem whatsoever with item no. 3! There was another Titan of Leadership years back named Hugo Chavez, who led his country's oil-rich prosperity in such poor fashion, that today thousands of Venezuelans have fled the country, many inundating the island Dutch Curacao, which is in no condition to provide adequately for them. Don't see much about this in the news. Frank
"At the end of Chávez's presidency in the early 2010s, economic actions performed by his government during the preceding decade such as deficit spending and price controls proved to be unsustainable, with Venezuela's economy faltering while poverty, inflation and shortages in Venezuela increased. Chávez's presidency also saw significant increases in the country's murder rate and continued corruption within the police force and government. His use of enabling acts and his government's use of Bolivarian propaganda was also controversial." See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Chávez
Our news media, who happily paints people as heros or villains as it seems profitable to them, has definitely painted Hugo Chavez as a terrible dictator . However, this compelling documentary , done by the much respected Oliver Stone (who did the series on the true history of the United States) presents a very different picture of this man. According to Oliver Stone, he was a fair and honest president, much loved by his people, and Stone suggests that not only Chavez, but also several other South American Presidents met untimely deaths, probably caused by our black ops people. This is a long documentary; but well worth the time spent to watch it. I think it will pique your interest, @Frank Sanoica .
Based on the social media posts that I see, the fanatics of President Duterte are in full support of the snobbish attitude of our president towards the UN, US, and some other countries. Maybe we can call him an eccentric president who has whims and caprices regarding his crude pronouncements but he is amenable to his mistakes that he can always issue an apology as if nothing has happened. And according to his apologists, we will learn to know him in due time. In fairness to President Duterte, his style of leadership is strange to us because it may be out of line but definitely it is bringing good and concrete results.
Indeed...I would venture to say that he shall require all the protection which he can get...!! Is it true, also, that he harbours a secret desire to become a martyr...? A political leader who will be remembered by his country for a long time afterward.
@Hugh Dowling Welcome, Hugh! Say, did having a birthday on Christmas Eve cause some difficulties when you were a kid? Like, no duplicate presents? Frank
