What is the general consensus here regarding my eating pasta nearly every day? Before I began doing this, my blood glucose was always below 100. Last year's check-up, it was 105. Recently, 115. Realizing aging can cause glucose levels to go up, what is the likelihood the pasta did it?

It probably helped, I don't eat Pasta and mine hasn't gone up but if you want to eat pasta...eat pasta. Your life, your choice.

I also eat low carb and practically no sugary stuff if it's under my control.,,,but that's my choice and actually my preference so even if the rules changed I'd still eat like I do.

I love veggies and chicken or fish....not fond of beef anymore and never liked lamb but love pork, just don't eat it because it involves cooking more so than chicken that I usually buy cooked.

With winter coming I may get some pork chops....those sound good right now. :)

I don't think you should eat anything every day. Everyone needs variety in their diet. I also like pasta but don't eat it often.

What effect it has on your blood glucose I have no idea.

Carbohydrates can increase your blood sugar higher than sugar one slice of beard can increase your blood sugar equal to a heaping teaspoon of sugar.

@Sheldon Scott You are at least honest about it. I have no idea either, thus the OP. Sugars, carbs, "spike" the blood insulin level, so I understand, but what's so bad about an insulin spike, I dunno. Insulin production is a natural consequence of human food metabolism, isn't it?

Something they talk about, "Glycemic Index", don't understand it, but has to do with that spiking, I think. Word came out that "whole grains" did not spike the index anywhere near as much as white-floured stuff, whatever that's called. The outer hulls of the grain are removed by "steel-cutting", another imponderable thought, for me, HTH can you "steel-cut" the thin hull off a grain of rice?

I gotta go to the doctor, I guess.

Hey Frank, if you like pasta, I say enjoy it. 115 is far from bad, I think a normal blood sugar is between 75 and 150, so I don't think it is something to be worried about at all. It just seems funny though that you are eating that when your wife doesn't want you to eat potatoes. Pasta has few redeeming values, unlike potatoes which have quite a few. I like pasta, but I don't eat it every day.

Potatoes then are better for me? I can't imagine anything more luscious than mashed potatoes, with the skins ground in, smothered in butter, lightly salted and peppered!! Now, that is a food-fare I COULD eat everyday! But tell me, why do potatoes have redeeming qualities as compared to whole-wheat pasta? Frank

Potatoes have vitamins, fiber and potassium, pasta is nothing but a refined flour filled starch. I am not a nutritional expert, but a little bit of research will tell you that. Eat whatever you wish, it just seems a little silly to pick pasta over potatoes. Happy eating whatever you choose!:):)
