I usually have look at one or two reviews of the movie and will probably stay away if more than one critic says a movie is really bad. However I won't always let ratings influence me because I've seen some of the big Oscar winners and hated them. A review is only one person's opinion.
Not really, I tend to make my own decision where a movie is concern. To me ratings and reviews are subjective they are based on someone's personal opinion on something. If I am looking forward to seeing a movie I don't let ratings or reviews influence me in the least. I might be curious to read a review or two to find out more about the movie, but I would hold back judgment as to whether its good or not till I have seen the film myself.
If you mean rated as in "rated r", no. But if you mean rated like 5 stars kind of rating, then sometimes. If its something I've never heard of and the review I read aren't at least 50% positive, I've been known to turn away.
I don't pay a lot of attention to G, PG-13, or R ratings; although, on the rare occasion that I can find a G-rated movie that isn't intended for very young children, and which has an actual plot and real actors, I can appreciate it. I don't have television and I rarely read reviews of movies but I do pay some attention to the viewer ratings of movies available on Netflix. More often than not, I'll like the movies that are rated highly and hate the ones that aren't.
I don't care about movie ratings because I like to watch whatever is brought to my attention regardless the rating, but happens that very rarely a movie release sounds appealing to me. Same as with music, when I feel tempted to watch a movie, it's because I have already watched it sometime in the past, and it's like this movie is from 2010-2008 or backwards. I still watch TV but equally, so rarely that when I do it, I don't watch movies, but a random show, the news or a documentary, if any of interest.
I don't care about ratings for movies. I decide if I am going to look at a movie by the subject matter not the rating. There are some movies that I will never look at because of the subject like Jurracis Park, even if it were free I would not look at that type of movie.
If you are looking at a 5 star rating system, and they have an insanely low score, I'll try to find something better. What it really comes down to is when I run out of 5 star movies to watch, I'll start the 4 star movies, and on and on. Sometimes a 1 will deserve at least a 3 or a 4, but not usually.
I agree that ratings are of one or more persons who are in agreement. I used to read them just to see what was good or bad but it doesn't stop me from seeing any movie.
A few years ago, I used to let ratings decide what I would watch. Now, I don't give a damn about them anymore. Why? Because it seems that every single movie that I enjoy is critically hated. I'd be browsing IMDb to check out any details I could've missed during the movie, and I'd notice that it would have an abismal rating. I've come to terms with the fact that I enjoy "junk" movies.
Some of my favorites were the ones who got low ratings. There's a one star b flick that is one of the best movies I've ever seen. It's called blood shed. Specifically, its the "Blood Shed" thats about an inbred, murdering family of cannibals in New Jersey. I have spent a couple months watching it once a day on Popcorn flix. The only reason I quit is because I got netflix.
Sounds really gritty and gory, like something I would watch on Halloween. I'll definitely have to give it a try. If you want another movie which tells and shows it as it is, try out "Running Scared". There's even a pedophile sequence in that movie, but it doesn't even imply anything other than a kidnapping.
My husband is a deputy of the Censors board here so he was issued a movie pass that is valid for 1 year in any theater. His duty is to see if the rating of the movies is strictly followed. Like for an R-18 (allowed are 18 years old and above) those looking young should be presenting an ID for age validation. What's good in that movie pass is the privilege to have a companion. That means the 2 of us can watch a movie for free.

It looks like one of those movies which is so corny and full of cliches, that it's actually good to watch with friends while playing some drinking games. I definitely have a few of those on the list of watched movies, but I think it's better not to share them.
