A family went on vacation. Upon their return, they found some raccoons had invaded their home. The raccoons had torn up furniture. Raccoon feces were all over the inside of the home. Yet, it was their home... a beautiful home... and they wanted to live many more years in that home. They pondered hiring a local exterminator. The exterminator had lots of experience with raccoons. He promised to rid the house of raccoons, but could do nothing about cleaning up the feces or removing the odor. A person from the "big city" bragged he had the answer. He assured the family he could rid the home of not only the raccoons, but also take care of the feces and odor. That is exactly what they wanted to hear!!! "What is your experience?" "None!". "How do you plan on riding our home of this menace?" "I have a plan, but cannot tell you." "There are factual reports that you have done personal harm to some of our neighbors and friends. You have not paid them for work done. You have fondled their wives and daughters. Why should we hire you?" "I will make your home greater! Don't believe anything you hear about me and my past. I am the smartest person alive and the only person who can fix your problems!" "Well, that sounds much better than hiring the local who is 'just another exterminator' and can't rid us of the feces and odor. You're hired!" So, the rich guy with no experience with raccoons, feces, or odor removal takes his Gold American Express card... buys 5 gallon of gasoline... sloshes the gas around the inside of the home... and tosses in a match. "But you just destroyed our home!!" "Isn't that what you wanted? You wanted rid of the raccoons, feces, and odor. I did that. Pay me! Oh, I have a friend at the local bank who might lend you the money for a new home." The United States is the best country in this entire world! Yes, we have some serious and hard issues to work through. Will Clinton have all the answer? I doubt it. But, she does have the experience and knowledge to initiate what it takes to solve many of our woes. We don't need to "burn the house down"!! To have someone with the temper and attitude of Trump in the White House could well be the gasoline and match this country does not need... and may not be able to survive. Is Clinton the best person to be elected to be President of the United States? I doubt it. The "best" were left behind in a primary election cycle that may well haunt this Country for decades. But, of the two choices we have, I will most certainly vote for someone with experience and demeanor rather than vote to burn down the house.
I am thankful that Ken permits people to express differing opinions here. While most of us don't agree with your post, @Will Lawrence , I think you will find that you will not be viciously attacked for expressing your opinion. Unlike some other boards.
I actually had a rat problem this summer that I talked about on the forum...it's been the worst summer of my life because of them and a few other things. I had my professional exterminator coming every few days setting traps and nothing worked. I spent many sleepless nights because of the noise the rats made at night. I had a meltdown and even cancelled an already booked trip to Illinois to visit my son for a month. Then I solved the rat problem by patching the holes in my roof so they couldn't get in....problem solved and over.
BTW @Will Lawrence Im very moderate and even liberal in some of my views on social issues. I don't even have a problem with Gay marriage and maybe not on this forum but in the real world there are many people with similar views voting for Trump.
Chrissy, I fully understand that. This is an election that pits friend against friend, neighbor against neighbor, and good people who post on internet discussion boards against each other. That's sad. There are some mighty fine people who have even similar stances that I do on issues who will vote for Trump. Does that make them evil or give some justification for me to speak ill of or to them? Of course not!!!! I just had to "mimic" the 'Why I'll Vote for Trump' thread, knowing full well it would see some "entertaining" responses.
I know @Will Lawrence and I have both democrats and republicans in my family and I haven't disowned anybody nor will I. And nobody is a despicable, racist, bottom of the barrel idiot either. When I see talk like that, I get upset. Thankfully it doesn't happen here. I've also not unfriended anyone on Facebook either.
I've unfriended people on FB. Don't like seeing certain articles/pictures that some like and don't like the language that a couple of FB friends used...........so, "unfriended" them, with absolutely no regrets. I've had a few arguments with my SIL, so it got to be when she would call, I'd just let my wife talk to her. SIL and I are back talking now, but there are still those times that I just want to hang-up on her. Funny, my BIL doesn't even want to talk to her. She can really get on his nerves.
I have one FB friend from Canada who will post some pretty vulgar and racist photos on my timeline. I just delete those from my timeline, I haven't unfriended him though. He only does this occasionally. I think you can also have certain people's posts not show in your feed but still be friends with them. My oldest niece in CT recently has been sharing too many anti Trump posts and I had to scroll through 3 pages of it to even get to the next thing, so til the election is over I've stopped her posts from showing up on my feed. I can always go to her page if I want to see pics of my latest great nephew who just turned one. He is the newest member of our family and I am the oldest. Everybody gets along in my family. We have different views but we still love each other.
I get about an equal number of anti-Trump vs. anti-Clinton memes or pictures on FB. (Seems everything is "anti"... not "for".) I have never reposted/shared a one of them. Nor will I stoop low enough to get into unnecessary arguments with FB friends. Ain't gonna change their minds. The ONLY time I have posted on FB re this election was when our daughter-in-law was so upset one day. Our son is still deployed and she is doing an excellent job of being a military wife while he's gone. She just had more than she could take, one day, of Trump. Really went off. I got her calmed down and explained to her my feelings of how each candidate would perform as Commander-in-Chief. Now, she has post after post that neither candidate is a good choice and suggests writing in their dog, Toby.
I am also glad people can express opinions, but this isn't Disneyland. There's some viciousness and lots of mob attacks on this forum - some people have stopped posting or even reading.
Way back in the early 70's, before I could legally vote, I watched my husband go through the process. This was a time when many women didn't vote. They just parroted what their spouses said. The first time I saw him write in a different candidate than those that were running for election, I asked him why he didn't just drop out of voting as so many others did. He explained to me that that didn't get counted in anyway. That by writing in a different name, or by noting that you didn't care for either candidate, and that you were at least being counted. He told me that if all the people who felt unsatisfactorily about the presented choices that this would eventually at least show our dissatisfaction. That if enough people would do this that sooner or later, the system would have to acknowledge this. I don't know if this true, but I do know that I do not liked being forced into a choice of the lessor of two evils.
I have unfriended people on Facebook but not because they were voting for someone other than Trump. However, if someone is going to come onto my Facebook wall to argue with everything I say, then I expect some original thinking rather than simply repeating the same old talking points that I've read a hundred times already. It happens in forums too, but I think you see it more quickly on Facebook, as some people will simply try to distract any conversation that they disagree with. When someone copies thirty unoriginal memes in a row, in Facebook comments, no one else will bother to even try to find the content there, so I have unfriended and blocked some of these people. It doesn't mean that I hate them, or that I will resettle the two raccoons who have been getting into my squirrel food to their neighborhood... okay, so maybe I'll do that, but it's nothing personal. I've got to put them somewhere,
I've not shared or liked one political post on FB this election. I bet my family except my kids think I'm a democrat. My kids know I'm voting Trump and so are they. Both have PhDs and neither are racists or homophobes or anything like that...can you believe it?!
That happened in April and someone started a new private forum and that's where those people are but some do read and some do post here occasionally. And I'll leave it at that. I do miss most of the people there since I deleted my acct when my mom died.
