I recently heard that Boswellia / Frankincense are used to combat inflammation, and that Frankincense is also used in many countries as a cancer treatment. I am considering trying it when I get the money for some supplements, so if anyone here has information, please feel free to share your information/experiences, both good and bad.

Had to look them up online and it appears they are another supplement for joint inflammation. There are quite a few out there for that problem.

I'm about to start taking Swanson ULTRA Joint Care w/Glucosamine, MSN and Chondroitin. The product has gotten some very good-to-excellent reviews. When I start using this, I will stop using the Glucosamine Sulfate I'm currently taking daily.

I've taken Glucosamine Chondroitin in the past with some success, but it has to build up in the system to be effective, and the pills are usually huge. I've heard that Boswellian can be taken as needed for inflammation. I would really like to find something that only had to be taken once or twice a day, and as needed would be really nice, although I would probably try to take it on a regular basis if it worked. A neighbor started taking the Boswellian, and the pills are slightly smaller than the Glucosamine ones I was taking before, which would make them more attractive to me, if they work.

Yes, this Swanson product tablets are pretty big. A little bigger than my Fish Oil tabs are.

I am not sure if Gluocosamine always has to build up in your system to be effective. I remember once many years ago, I was having ankle stiffness in the morning when I woke up. Now, I suppose it could have been related to another cause other than arhthritis, but I took at the most two doses of glucosamine, and I never had the issue again! I was pleasantly surprised. I know for a fact that I don't have a huge amount of cartilage in my knees, probably not the best thing for a pickle ball player lol.. so if they start to bother me, I will take a tab.

I tend to look at things a little different instead of getting something to combat inflammation would it be better to find out what caused it and not do that anymore. Like eating the wrong foods exercising badly or hitting yourself with a hammer. As far as frankincense which was a medical cure going back to biblical times in fact frankincense and myrrh were the antibiotics of the time Christ child was born and it was as valuable as gem stones. As far as cancer they claim most cancers are self induced so changing what you do just might be an idea.

Diane I've never tried Frankincense but have you tried Turmeric Golden paste...or in capsules ...it works extremely well for inflammation..arthritic pain and all sort of other inflammatory diseases...

We even give it to our dogs who have arthritis...

I use Organic turmeric supplements... they have to be the ones which have Bioperine included

Yes, I believe its actions are accumulative. One of my 26 year-old cats uses Glucosamine and it works well; but I've run out of it before, to find that she had trouble for a week or so before it took effect again.

Glucosamine is a food and not a drug, foods work with your body and drugs over power your body.

For example if you had a broken arm the body would repair it over time and the pain would go away slowly. A drug on the other hand will stop the pain rapidly but have not healed the brake.

I eat a lot of spicey foods (or supplements) because they are known for their anti-inflammatory properties. This site lists most of the things I eat, some I don't like cloves, never tried those.

    http://articles.mercola.com/sites/a.../02/anti-inflammatory-foods-herbs-spices.aspx

I have degenerative disc disease, some arthritis, and the worse part is in my neck and back. I also am taking full dose of Calcium w/Magnesium and D3 (D3 is separate).

I don't know if others will agree, but I get what I can afford, cheap is all I can afford sometimes, but one place that has some pretty good brands is Grocery Outlet, or a store of that type that has discount prices. They buy "overstock" I think it is, and you need to check dates etc. Although I don't worry a whole lot because they have to put an expiration date but lots of times things are still fine to go on using. At least that's what the pharmacist said.

Martin knows a lot about this stuff and I've been talking with him for about 3 years now I think, about alternative medicine/home remedies;)

I have a big bottle of the Gluc/Chon/MSM and haven't been good about taking that regularly. I'm doing good on the Calc/Mag for now, and eventually hope to incorporate the other. Yes, the tablets are huge! Maybe there are other forms but then you run into more expensive I think. I just try to get good at one thing, then try to add something I need. Speak of, I just took mine this a.m. The Calc/Mag are one tab, (2x a day = 1000 Calc/500 mag) 5000 mcg of B12, 50 mg, of Zinc, 1000 IU of D3, and 120mg Gingko Biloba. Sometimes I only manage to get the Calc/Mag in for the day;)

Foods are hard for me to get enough nutrition out of, but I try to eat fish if I can find some good Salmon, and I love Albacore Tuna. Vegies and Fruits, but I believe in the supplements for sure. I love Cinnamon Tea, and Red Chili Peppers (have to do teeny bits of RCP, LOL!).

That sounds like a good combination. I take adult gummy multis these days, as well as the B, C when I have it, D3, Calcium & Magnesium. I am looking to add in some more when I can, and boosting my minerals and decreasing acid are my goals. I really love the idea of taking Frankincense, but of course if I take it and it doesn't seem to help, I'll probably stop.

Spicy foods, especially cayenne are supposed to be great anti-inflammatory foods. We add some cayenne into most things that we cook, and a lot of it into the foods that are supposed to be spicy.
Avoiding inflammatory foods is just as important as using the anti-inflammatory ones, at least that is how I feel about it.
Another thing that helps me is heat treatment.
When I am achy and stiff, I am often also cold, and a hot shower seems to help a lot. I always sit in the hot tub for about five minutes when we go to the fitness center, and maybe more in the cold winter months.
At night, I make sure that the center of my back (waist/hips) are covered, even in the heat of summer, or I can wake up with stiffness right there.
One Vitamin that is very helpful for arthritis (and lots of other things) is niacin.
It will open up the tiny capillaries and help circulation, and get blood into areas where it doesn't always get to otherwise. Always take niacin with food, and start with a small dose. Never take time-release, it damages the liver.
Get the kind that says "may cause flushing" because the flushing is what opens the capillaries. If you take it on an empty stomach, you will regret it.

I remember we had a conversation about DMSO before. I'll keep that in mind, but I did get a bottle of Boswellia, and starting taking it earlier. I'll see if I notice any improvement. Since I'm on a budget, I don't always take vitamins/supplements/medications according to their instructions, because I try to spread them out and last longer, but I'm going to take this three times per day as instructed, at least until I get it into my system, and see if I notice a difference.
