    For the first time in 13 years that I've lived here my daughter is not doing Thanksgiving. She doesn't have the time this year. She always goes above and beyond when she does any holiday cooking so she decided it wasn't happening this year. I'm glad cause I always helped.

    A university in Oregon is having an open house so my daughter and grandson are going the weekend before
    Thanksgiving and then she has to work til Wednesday.

    So she informed me she made reservations at the Monterey Plaza Hotel for their Thansksgiving Buffet and
    It looks pretty good. She's paying my share of course.

    Thanksgiving Buffet 2016 November 24th 12pm- 6pm Reservations Call: 831-646-1700 We have reservations for 3:00p.m.

    This is the Hotel. Ive eaten here a few times before an it's a great place. Have had Easter Brunch here a few times and a few lunches with my daughter also. Where the white umbrellas are is where we sat for lunches with my daughter.

    I'm sure the Thanksgiving Buffet will be inside...but you never know here weatherwise...we've had a few hot Thanksgiviings.

    Then Christmas in Illinois for me and New Year too.

    Unless something horrible is found in my bloodwork. :(

    I get anxious and that's why I've put it off....

    Me too...I gotta find something to wear that's nice but will not hamper me stuffing myself. :)

    That sounds yummy. When I first moved down here back in the 80s, I sometimes worked on Thanksgiving. The company I worked for arranged for those working to enjoy a nice buffet lunch/dinner at a local hotel. I think I posted elsewhere about hosting dinner for all of my co-workers. Some would work a double shift on the holidays, and would eat at the hotel for one meal, then come to my place for the other. I had a lot more energy back then. The first year I moved back down here, one of my good friends was working that day, and he and I picked up Thanksgiving dinner at Luby's and had a nice picnic with it.

    That's nice that people work together so that everyone can have a nice Thanksgiving! My daughter has always taken the Tuesday and Wednesday off before but this year things worked out differently plus she's got a tiring weekend going to Oregon before so she decided on this and she'd spend almost as much anyway because she always does...true we won't have the leftovers but at least she gets a break...she works very hard.

    I'm sure y'all could purchase some leftovers if you wanted to. I love the leftovers probably even more than the dinner. It's such a cozy feeling snuggled up that night watching holiday movies and snarfing down leftovers :p;):D. I worked at an energy corporation after that job I mentioned, and the cafeteria had the best cooks. Since Thanksgiving was a day off for most of the corporate workers, the cooks would prepare a Thanksgiving feast earlier in the week. I think some people probably bought extras of the side dishes and used them for their Turkey Day meal.

    I've always been big into traditions, everyone sitting around the table at a home cooked meal, but really, the most important thing is to all be together, and even better if your daughter will be able to relax and enjoy the day, instead of slaving in the kitchen and then being too exhausted to celebrate.

    Looks purty fany there @Chrissy Page, if we go out for Tgiving, we usually go somewhere cheap like Country Buffet. One time we went to Charlie's Place in McClean Virginia, which was pretty high end. Also, we may have gone to the Hilton once for Tgiving. I cooked last year, but hmmm, decisions, decisions..Always something to decide it seems. Cook or no cook? travel or no travel?

    Gee @Chrissy Page it looks like you will have a grand Thanksgiving this year. The menu of the buffet made me salivate. And the hotel looks 5-star. I'm sure you are excited at this early. We don't have Thanksgiving here but I understand that it's a big occasion there.

    Yes I'm excited especially since I don't have to help cook this year.

    It's a buffet so I don't know about leftovers but I can take a big purse and line it with plastic , lol.

    We also love the leftovers @Diane Lane but thems the breaks...:)

    Since it is usually just the two of us, and sometimes Robin, we don't do anything fancy. i love roast turkey, and all of the leftovers, and we usually get a small turkey and cook it, plus sweet potatoes and i have to have my cranberry sauce, of course. If Robin comes, we also make regular potatoes, since she doesn't eat sweet potatoes or any kind of squash.
    Going out to a buffet would be awesome, and I am sure that Golden Corral will have one for Thanksgiving; but those are usually expensive and over $10 per person, which is way too much for us to spend. Or maybe not, if we plan ahead and save up for it.
    Then we would have all of the treats and extras, and still have the turkey at home for snacking on afterwards.

    This will probably cost close to $400 with tip and drink for the 5 0f us but my daughter can spend that much shopping for food, she goes all out...so the only difference will be no leftovers.

    Maybe more if they have wine or a cocktail...and SIL is a generous tipper so at least 25%.

    Yes, I believe it...mine isn't much more. They're lucky and I'm lucky to have them in my life. But it's more than luck because it took hard work and they still work hard.

    And usually most restaurant bills come close to this....this is not a big deal. I hate saying this because it makes it sound boastful but that's what they can afford. My SIL is frugal with money because he wants to retire early and have enough to live like they have been so he's a saver....and investor.

    Son and DIL are less well off but they could afford this too...they are 5 years behind my daughter, plus my DIL doesn't come from a rich family so she had college loans too. My son in law didn't...daddy paid for 8 yrs.

    My son in law and daughter own 2 dental practices and my son and DIL own 1.

    Anyway, didn't want this to be about money....I'm just happy that I won't have to be cooking too. :)

    I'd eat a TV dinner and be happy. :)

    Wow, you are really blessed @Chrissy Page When I was little we had the most wonderful holidays. When my mom, grandmother, grandpa were alive. Now I have no one, well, there's some wonderful people here, and I'm sure we'll have our gatherings in the rec area:) It's just not the same with no family. I have relatives, don't misunderstand, but they are no one I want to be around.
