Well, weird and wacky weather trends continue, It is going down into the mid 30's tonight, and Weds as well. I know they have frost and freeze warnings for the mountains, and maybe this area too.My travels are taking me to the Baltimore area tomorrow which will no doubt be cooler than here. I think it might be a good idea to bring my plants in for tonight and probably defiently tommorrow night. Then by the weekend we are close to 80. Freaky weather..global warming in action I guess.

Thanks for reminding me....I need to buy a winter coat if I'm going to Illinois in December. Boots too, I have uggs for here but they don't do well in snow. :(

Oh, I'm excited...I might see snow!!

We're still 82 tomorrow and then a slight drop with chance of rain.

I wouldn't mind the cold, @K E Gordon but then up to 80 would drive me crazy. We really haven't hit our colder weather yet...at least it's not 100!

After paying the price for "desert summer", we are now enjoying the first 1/3 of Fall wearing as little clothing as possible! Especially me! Nice, quiet rain yesterday evening, gauge showed 1/2 inch, this AM 60 degrees, mid-afternoon 86, perfectly sunny all day.

My wife talked to her Mom this afternoon in Indiana; it was 36 degrees there this morning. The lady will b e 91 in January.

Actually, it looks like the frost or freeze is going to be just North of here, so I am not going to worry about bringing the plants in. When I checked the temp they said it would 41 for our overnight low, that isn't anything. It has already been colder than that a few times. So, I am not going to worry about it. Probably a jacket and a sweater will suffice tomorrow. I don't think I will freeze. If it was going to be windy though, a winter coat would be needed.

It's 5.50am...it's 59 degrees here, and quite mild indoors, but when I leave for work, I'll be putting my coat on..you betcha....!

I've been wearing a coat to work for the last 2 weeks ..

At what point must you begin heating your domicile? My wife's mom, said she had not yet turned on the heat. She has a small, portable electric plug-in heater she stations in her living room. My wife was taken aback. Nearly ordered her, "Turn on your heat!".

As you say, wind makes all the difference. We will likely need to heat the house some in Decemberrrr, depending on the wind more than temperature. The Desert is a "Harsh Master". Sun warms daily, night brings quick chilling temps, lack of wind compensates things. The Orange, Lime, and Lemon trees depend on quick turn-around after chilling nights. When I moved to Vegas in 1972, the second winter there overnight temp. dropped to 12 degrees! This killed many dozens of established palm trees along the median strip of Charleston Blvd. We were shocked, and astounded, having expected that place was essentially the "Tropics". The following winter, 8-inches of snow fell overnight at our house! We were about 6 miles north of the "Strip", which basically defined the bottom of the sloped valley. We looked out over the Strip from our home about 500 feet higher, in elevation, maybe more. The Strip got scant snow! West of us, higher up, the snow accumulated sufficiently to require roadway removal. We quickly learned that very basic differences existed between the winter conditions where we had grown up (the Midwest), and those of mountainous areas.

As I had posted in another thread, today is the start of my 10-day vacation leave from work. We went to church and on the way, we parked our car in my parking slot in the office and we would just take the taxicab to the church (instead of enduring the problem of parking in the church patio). After parking the car and going out to the street, we were surprised that it was raining. I remember getting into the building compound that the sun was shining and just after a few minutes of parking the car, it was already raining. To make the story short, I got back to the car for the umbrella. In the taxicab, we noticed the fickle-minded weather - shower, rain, sunshine, shower, sunshine, etc. On our way back home, the sun was already shining hot and we had to use the umbrella to shield us from being scorched.

@Holly Saunders , you're 59 must be cooler than ours because we have lots of mornings and days in the winter that are that temp and I never wear a coat.

In fact yesterday morning when I went for bloodwork, it was still dark out and maybe about 55 degrees. I had on a sleeveless summer dress with a very thin material sweater over it and flip flops and I stood outside about 10 mins til they opened and wasn't cold at all.

It's a nice day here, but although the air conditioning hasn't been on yet, I just turned on the ceiling fan here in the office, because I was too warm. I have yet to turn the one in the bedroom off. It's been going for months, with only being turned off to be cleaned a few times. I like to keep the air circulating, but sometimes even that little breeze is too much. I don't even own a proper Winter coat anymore, since I haven't left the state in quite a while. I have a few of what I consider Fall coats/jackets, and they suffice for her. There are usually only a few days per year when it gets below freezing, and those snaps don't usually last long.

I wear a lot of vests in the winter months here with a long sleeve T. Or a hoodie type jacket, jogging jacket, heavier sweater...all depends but usually dress in layers as morning is cooler especially at daughter's.

Even in the summer there in the morning it's colder than here, then by afternoon you are sweating sometimes.

If you are out for the day there, it takes careful planning. I always take a change of shoes in the car.

I've gone from uggs in the morning to switching to flip flops by afternoon.

Speaking of that, I think maybe I'll find a face mask and clean the ceiling fan blades later. I've never lived in a place as dusty as this one, and it seems I'm constantly cleaning the fan blades. I might take the time to clean my outside windows, too, that way I can pull out the Thanksgiving/Fall window clings and put them up.

Oh @Frank Sanoica I have a fake woodburner with an electric display and a portable heater. I also have an electric blanket. This house is very well insulated and we get a lot of sun most days, so I haven't turned the heat on, but if it gets super cold like down in the teens or 20's I will. Last winter I probably only had the heat on maybe 6 or 8 times. I can tolerate cold much better than heat, but it is nice to know it is there if needed. We don't usually have cold temperatures for an extended period of time.
