We went to a Halloween Party last Saturday night, in full costumes. I couldn't see the 3 steps (down) in front of me and fell to the floor. Scratched my nose, scrapped my knee and sprained my left foot. No need to go to ER, but did get an x-ray on the foot at the VA on Tuesday. No broken bones or fractures, but did get a moderate-to-bad sprain on the foot. Can't walk on it. Been elevating the foot, using ice packs and taking 800 mg ibuprofen. Bought crutches and renting a wheelchair. In the process of buying our own wheelchair now. Swelling on top and bottom of foot almost gone, but won't try and walk on it yet, Sure glad it was me that fell, not my wife. She's the one with the full-time job. Anyway, all-in-all, not doing to bad, but will sure be glad to walk on the foot again. Well, this Halloween is shot, but we have next year. Wife did tell me how good looking I was in my Supreme Darth Vader costume.
I was going to post where's Cody yesterday but then forgot. WOW, a Halloween you will remember for a long time. Sorry it happened because I was excited for you with your cool costume and all! Just keep thinking good thoughts like how great your wife thought you looked....before you fell. Hope you heal quickly...did the suit sustain any damage?
Wow, too bad @Cody Fousnaugh. It's always something isn't it? Well I guess you have a momento of your experience, but not one you would like. It is just one of the unfortunate things that happens, that it seems we have no control of. There is a Halloween party at the winery here. I need to check it out, and see what the cost for attendance is. They do have some fun things there, and one of the best is the VA Renassiance Festival, at just 10 dollars and free parking, is just my speed!
Oh yes, we will both remember this Halloween time. Actually, half of my costume had to be put on me in the parking lot of the restaurant/bar we went to. There was absolutely no way that I could sin in the vehicle in full costume. Several people wanted their picture taken with me, but with my foot swelling up, we had to leave. The jumpsuit got a tear on the knee and a small piece on my Vader helmet broke at the neck, but all can be fixed. It was a pretty expensive costume, so we are glad that only a couple of repairs will be needed. My wife was my Stormtrooper, but there was a young guy there that was in a Stormtrooper costume as well.
If there were a Halloween smash going down here that we could attend, my own uncluttered visage would likely prove frightening enough to others there wearing various costumes. My best costume is me! Frank
So sorry! What a way to ruin your outing. Falling is horrible. It happens so fast. Going down stairs, even a few, is bad. Hope you are up and walking soon.
Have to admit, the fall was my fault. I had read that a person who wears the helmet, can't see very good, especially bending the head to look down. Just the way this costume is made. Actually, I shouldn't have been wearing the helmet in the first place while walking thru the restaurant. I also read that this costume is more for Appearances (stores), than for a crowded party. But wife and I sure do like the way it looks and lights up.
Hope so to! My wife is getting a workout doing her things, most of the things that I did and working a job also.
You have a wonderful wife, @Cody Fousnaugh. You should do something nice for her when you are healed. Yes, I know in sickness and in health and I took care of my husband without even thinking about it but I at least didn't work.
Yes, what a wife I have! We've been there for each other after surgeries we've had. I helped her after she had a surgery in Calif. in 2000 and she helped me after three surgeries.........hip replacement and two rotator cuff surgeries (one on each shoulder). At the time she had her surgery, I was unemployed, so was able to help her and send out resumes. My wife was sort of surprised at things I could do, using either my crutches or wheelchair, while she was at work. But, have to try and do some things. There are certain things that I obviously can't do, because I can't stand or walk on both feet. And, I have to watch overdoing or my foot will start talking to me (swelling up a little). I was able to do a load of laundry yesterday and boy was she surprised about that when she got home.
You are a perfect couple! Be glad that you found each other. Don't overdo it though (laundry) because it might set you back in healing....but I'm sure you know what you are doing.....so keep doing it.
Yes, pretty much know what I can and can't do. Can stand up on one foot/leg, with very little body weight on my sprained foot, to wash/towel dry my hair. But, no way can I change the bed sheets.
