I remember when getting weighed at the doctor's office the routine was to undress down to your undies. That was as close to your real weight as you could get. This was expected each time I had a doctor's visit right up until the digital era began and things changed. First it was the shoes, etc. and any outerwear (jackets, coats) that you were asked to remove. Now it's just any outerwear. Now I suspect that my weight is being recorded erronously; rephrase that, I know my weight is being recorded wrong and that 3-5 pounds is a big difference to me. After weighing myself in the full monty before I go to the doctor and get weighed I completely ignore the reading and I'm very tempted to make them correct it. Knowing that weight is a factor considered for all kinds of health related conditions why is it not recorded truthfully these days I wonder.
Mine is pretty accurate. I have never gotten weighed naked at the drs. Always took my shoes off though. I was dressed lightly yesterday and had flip flops on and kept them on for my weigh in. I like to manipulate my weight at the drs. Next time I'll take my shoes off and I'lll have lost weight, lol. Weight is not an issue for me now so it doesn't bother me what I weigh. But that wasn't always the case..especially after I quit smoking. But that was a while ago.
@Chrissy Cross, I didn't really mean naked those little nightgowns were always given to cover you up. It's just the principle of it all that gets to me. I don't have any weight issues either. I just notice how some procedures have changed through the course of my lifetime.
Yes, but years ago every doctor's office I ever been to a hospital gown was given to me. I think the last time I have worn one was for a mammogram or a pelvic exam.
I never worn a hospital gown at a drs office. In fact. My Pap smear and and pelvic exam in April was at my drs office and thankfully it was still the sweet lady dr and not froggy that did it but I just took my panties off and hiked up my dress. She put a paper sheet over my bottom half. With my feet in stirrups it made a nice tent for her. I have had the male dr do a feel your breasts exam on me a few years ago....that was creepy but there was a nurse in the room. I did wear a top only hospital gown when I did the treadmill stress test...since I was attached to electrodes. Good thing my boobs aren't big...and weren't bouncing all over the place.
It seems to me like most of the things at a doctor's office have become more and more impersonal over the years. I don't actually remember having to undress to get weighed, but i do remember having to change and put on one of the little gowns sometimes, although I don't remember the reason I was at the doctor's office. Now, it seems like we are processed through in more of a hurry, and the digital scales in the hallway is just part of getting to the waiting area for the doctor. I usually take off anything like shoes and jackets before being weighed, too. Even when they are doing the EKG, they can do it by just lifting up my blouse, so unless it is an echocardiogram, or something like that where they have to have you in an open gown, most everything else is just checked in regular clothes, I think.
The scale at my drs office isn't digital. Still the old fashioned kind. I only put my purse down but it's so light I could Probably even hold it and not add too much. I will take off my uggs though in the winter, although about a year or so ago I was at my skinniest and felt the dr would tell me to gain so I kept them on. That was a few months after I watched my 3 grandsons for 5 days in Illinois...lost quite a few lbs then. Always do when I'm there, so I'm sure I'll lose the 3 I've gained this year. Dr said my BMI is still very good but my skinny jeans feel tight. I don't feel my drs office is impersonal mainly because I've been going there 13 years and they all know me and I chit chat with the nurses and receptionist. I do miss my lady dr though...she was a hugger and talked about her family, my family and I never felt rushed with her ...she's in Sacramento now Otherwise I would have followed her.
At my doctor's office, the first thing they do is have me step on the scale, and that's outside the examination room, so I am fully clothed. Last winter, my doctor made a point of telling me that I had gained weight since my last visit, and I had to point out that my last visit had been during the summer and I was probably wearing short pants, a tee-shirt, and flip-flops whereas, at that time, I was wearing jeans, a flannel shirt, heavy shoes, and a jacket. Clothing can add a lot of weight depending on the season here in Maine.
We get our true weight at home. I will have my pajama bottom and a t-shirt on.......that's it. When we weigh my wife, she will have her sleeping top/bottom clothes on only. Actually, I trust our Weight Watchers Home Scale for weighing,
Most of the Doctor's now days know that your clothes and shoes are going to add a few extra pounds to you actual weight and they factor this in. It saves time and money for them to not have to wait for you to totally disrobe to check your weight. And many people are glad (me being one of them) that they don't have to take everything off to be weighed anymore. I usually do take my shoes off unless I'm wearing lightweight flip flops. And I do have a digital scale at home that I always weight myself on before I have my Doctor's visit..so I can tell how off the mark my weight is on the Doctor's scale and with all my clothes still on.
Yes, my drs scale and my digital scale at home are in sync....but weight is not one of my concerns. I do gain a few lbs when I don't weigh myself every day...that's the only thing that keeps me on track. I wasn't weighing before I left home and was eating a lot but I knew I would lose it here...I always do.
