I'm way down here in Texas, and I've been hearing some mighty weird speculations. I don't know how much you might know of our history. But Texas at one time, was a country onto itselves. Not for long, but we were for over nine years before we join the United States of America. We fought for this area against Mexico at the San Jacinto battlefield, and we won our freedom back in 1836. That was when we became the Republic of Texas. We were annexed by the United States of America on December 29th. Of 1845.

The reason I tell you all this is so that you might understand how Texans might feel about our individualism.

Ok, now that I've given a shot history for those that have never heard of our history, I can go into one of the speculations that has been flying around.

For years now the subject of our secession from this union keeps cropping up. Now there are many reasons that this would not work, so I'll not go into them now.

Now this idea seems to have morphed into another blown out of proportion idea. We are hearing the silly idea that "some people" are setting us all up so that our country can be dismembered into several countries.

What say you? Do you think this could happen?

    Conspiracies, conspiracies, oh my.

I don't know, but I would hate to see any of our States secede from the United States of America. We need to stand together. I know it's old, maybe silly to some, movie called War of the Worlds. If you ask me, I have never seen a country come together in the time of disasters, as the US. No matter our differences, we will fight together, I still believe we would.

I don't think that the country will be divided into separate countries, and I don't think that Texas will secede from the United States either. However, I have read about the government dividing up the country into 10 regions, and maybe this is what you have been reading about, too, @Ina I. Wonder .
Here is a map that shows the 10 regions and how the US would be divided; but it would all still be part of the United States as a whole , at least from my understanding of this division.

Yes @Gary Ridenour, you are correct, and in my opinion that is the biggest reason that Texas would fail in such an endeavor. It would only succeed if other states would join in and help provide protection from the rest of the United States Of America and Mexico. At this stage of our development Mexico would love to annex us back into their control.

But just for the sake of one's imagination, how do you think the states would be separated, and for what reasons do you think each new section would base their claim?

before this election there were several state's that threatened to leave because of Obama's threats to change state Gov's to go along with his liberal regime. do it or face outrageous penalty's and cut backs in benefits.

Each state depends for so many things from the federal government, and we as individuals also depend on the federal government. Everything from money for education to building roads, and even medical care. I am not sure if seniors would still draw their SS pensions or Medicare if their state seceded from the union. Possibly, they would because people who have moved elsewhere to other countries can still draw their SS pensions as far as I know. Medicare, I am not so sure about. Definitely not federal programs like food stamps and Medicaid, which a whole lot of people in every state receive.
There are also federal funds for things like roads, and other important things that we usually take for granted as being a part of the United States, which we would no longer have as a state that seceded from the US government.
So, even though there might be a lot of people talking about this, I just don't see any of the state governments going along with it.
I am hoping that no matter who is put in as president, we don't have riots and more problems than we have right now.

Those are just a few of the reasons that it wouldn't work, there are so many things that would have to have time to plan the best way to address such difficulties, and many many more. The very fact of the amount of time that would be needed to accomplish any such attempt is exactly why it wouldn't work. Too many people would die in the interlude. Starvation, illness, crime, lack of transportation, and lack of federal funds would destroy at least a third of the population, if not more.

I was in a discussion on Saturday with a young man that really thought secession was a great idea. So of coarse I asked him how he thought this might happen, or even why this was a good idea. He didn't really have an idea of what secession would accomplish at all.

Do any of you ever get into this kind of discussion with the youth of today. He was nineteen.

It would be hilarious if Texas separated and ask Russia for protection and make a deal for fair trade with them as they don’t have GMOs
