This article: http://www.sensiblemedicalsolutions.com/sweeteners.html my wife alerted me to, as it is presented in view of low carb eating. "With an understanding that weight gain or weight loss is controlled by the hormone insulin, our overall goal is to lower the insulin levels in the blood stream. Glucose (a carbohydrate in its most simple form) stimulates insulin to rise. A Low carbohydrate diet works because insulin levels are significantly lowered throughout the day. Elevation in cholesterol, elevation in triglycerides and stimulus for production of uric acid also occur because of surges in the hormone insulin. The most common stimulus for insulin to rise is the body’s recognition of the presence of carbohydrates or sugars." "Beware of products that contain "no added sugar" because they will often contain sugar concentrates in the form of concentrated grape or apple juice." Those are a few quotes from the article. It goes on to compare all the commonly used non-nutritive sweeteners. My wife decided Erythritol is best for her. See what you think! Frankl
@Frank Sanoica , you should show your wife @Yvonne Smith's thread on the Ketogenic diet. It addresses those very issues.
Ive known this all along @Frank Sanoica. I still use a packet of Splenda in my coffee. I'm not in ketosis ever because that means eating less than 20 grams of carbs a day and that's very difficult. If you really counted what you ate it's difficult. Even spices have carbs... Anyway, I've kept my weight steady at about 128lbs, give or take a pound. I just eat good carbs though because I don't want to lose weight just eat healthy.
My stance is to eat healthly with the occasional treat and of course exercise daily, even if it's a walk. I have never added sweeteners
Except for my thyroid, I was surprised to see how really healthy I am. Even at home I will get in 5,000 steps a day. When I'm at my daughter's house that rises easily to 10,000. Starting January when I'm back home, I'll be busy packing up and decluttering so using some different muscles. There is also a treadmill in my room at my son's house that I always use, so December will give me good numbers also. My daughter in law does Pilates a few times a week and I've gone with her before. Even if you don't go to a gym, you can still get a lot of cardio around the house.
There you go then. I do think as we age though we do tend to worry more, it's natural. What you can lose is stamina even ones that exercise regularly. I am lucky as I live in ideal climate and can walk daily. Not so easy if you have rain or snow. I confess. I do like the odd cake as a treat.
It's just that I've always been more of a mellow person and not the hyper type. I just need to accept that this is the way I am. It would be different if I wasn't in shape but I am. Minus the tight tummy and trim waist, I'm about shaped like my avatar. Just add a tummy bulge to super woman.
Not as skinny as when I was 17 and yes the obligatory tummy bulge. I spent hours in the gym trying to get rid of that and eventually hung up my gym kit. I also used to practice yoga more for relaxation and distress. I think I will go back to that mind as they run classes in my new home
Yep, even my poor thin daughter has a tummy bulge and she runs, does Zumba, hikes, eats low carb. Doesn't sit down for an hour in the whole day. Works, entertains, etc...just a very busy life. She has mentioned a tummy tuck but I discouraged her.
