Did you hear of the plane crash ? Only 2 footballers survived although seriously hurt Heard on the news today, the plane had run out of fuel even though the pilot had made a stop and could have re-fuelled Should never be allowed to happen, pilots should be forced to re fuel at the stopover Very sad and could have been avoided
So sad, and why on Earth wouldn't the pilot refuel? Maybe they are under orders not to refuel if the company limits them to "just enough". Too many companies have this stupid "lean and mean" attitude when what they are doing is either neglecting tools employees need, or one employee to do the work of 3 people or more.
@Denise Happyfeet - at present its a mystery as to why the pilot didn't refuel - maybe he thought he could make the journey But that judgement would be from an inexperienced pilot There has to be procedures that prevent this from happening again - just can't believe it
@Ken Anderson - It was 'his' decision not to refuel, from what I've understood I believe it was a private plane ? Not 100 per cent, but haven't heard an airline mentioned
The airline was the pilot reported an electrical failure and lack of fuel. His desperate plea to be permitted to land was recorded here... The final call Pilot: Lima-Mike-India 2933 is in total failure, total electrical failure and [without] fuel. Tower: Runway is free. Expect rain on the surface Lima-Mike-India 933, firemen have been alerted. Pilot: Vectors, miss. Tell me the vectors from the runway. Tower: I can't find you on the radar. What is your direction now? Pilot: Direction three six zero. Three six zero. Tower: Turn left zero one zero and proceed to the Rio Negro localiser 1 mile ahead of VOR [combined radio navigation station]... I confirm left in the direction of three five zero. Pilot: Left three five zero. Tower: Yes, correct. You're at one mile to the Rio Negro localiser. Tower: I don't have your altitude, Lima-Mike-India. Pilot: 9,000ft, miss. Vectors, vectors. Tower: You're 8.2 miles to the runway. Pilot: Jesus. Tower: What's your altitude now? The poor Pilot, it's heartbreaking to read this..... according to this report on the BBC... read the rest here......R.I.P , what a tragedy... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-38142998
Holly, can't thank you enough for this. I haven't viewed the link yet I know it will be hard It is so much better to get the facts than speculate, seems I would have learned that after this most horrible last year of presidential campaign Thank you again, Denise
You're very welcome Denise. I'm a news-hound, so I always research as much as I can on any major news item. Yes indeed in so many ways 2016, has been one of the worst years in living memory for so many people, in so many different ways...and I for one cannot wait for this year to end, and hope that we can all enter 2017 with a whole new Guardian angel looking down on us all..
Good for you Holly, and I have the very, same hope that you do for 2017. Come New Years, I'll be watching the fireworks in London, near Big Ben. I've made that my own tradition for the last 5 or 6 years now I'll be thinking of you, Denise
I know you watch every year Denise, and I know how much you love it too......and when I'm watching it, I'll know that you and many of my friends from over the pond will be watching it with me...how lovely is that, ?
Thanks for the above Holly - I stopped reading the papers a couple of years back, so rely on the news The BBC didn't mention the incident last night, so I put on the thread @Holly Saunders
I caught this story right as it was first reported, and my heart dropped. It's a definite tragedy, especially at this time of year. The holidays will be rough ones for those families and other loved ones. I wondered what caused the crash. Thanks for researching and sharing that @Holly Saunders. I will also be happy to see the end of this year, and I really hope 2017 is much brighter for all of us.
