There's a great Shriner's hospital in Galveston, Texas, and at least three of the young children hurt/burned in the massive fireworks explosion in Mexico will be treated there. I love that there are hospitals that provide free care to children, and I'm sure the families probably would never have been able to obtain such world class treatment otherwise. Here's a link to the story.
I love that there are hospitals that do this too. One of my favorites is St. Judes. My godchild (my brother's daughter) was diagnosed with leukemia many years ago and St. Judes treated her until she went in remission and they also supply free housing, etc, for the parents. I'm sad to say that the leukemia did come back and my godchild died. St. Jude's helped her and her parents through every stage and never charged them a penny. My husband and I are really donors to St. Jude's because of this.
Yes, I had Shriner's and St. Jude's in mind when I posted it. I can't imagine facing that diagnosis with a child. I'm sorry for your loss. It doesn't matter how many years have passed, it's still difficult to accept the loss. I saw someone say the other day on television that dealing with such a diagnosis would be the worst thing in the world, but that's incorrect. Being faced with that diagnosis without the ability to obtain treatment would be worse.
Yes, I agree totally Diane, especially when you need that treatment for your child. My godchild did leave us a beautiful blessing before she passed though...while she was in remission at the age of 17 she had a baby girl that was perfectly healthy in spite of all the chemo and other meds she had to take to put her in remission...and Tory who blesses our lives now, looks just like her mom did..except she has dark hair like her dad, instead of blond like her Mom's.
