Over the years, I've become an informal guy. During my lifetime, I learned that much of the frivolity, pretentiousness, "showing-out", and formal "dictates" imposed upon society, are actually a sham, unnecessary to adhere to in order to lead a satisfying life. Does this make any sense? How to describe my feelings.........OK, as an example, I never wore a tie when I taught high school. Dress "codes" are to me one of those shams. Without codes, folks decide for themselves between "right or wrong", and take care of offenders forthwith. No need for "rules" which must be "obeyed". I like ladies who are feisty, for example, those who are able to be "out of the box" when vanity allows it. So, is formality and type of imposed vanity? In order to be fair, I like guys that way, too, just not as much as ladies, though! Frank
Not sure I get the gist of yer post Frank I never follow anyone's lead, I do what I think is right - is that what you mean ?
I have always been true to myself, often marched to the beat of a different drum then Society dictated, and though I am a very informal person, I do occasionally enjoy formal too.
But, @Frank Sanoica , a society without rules would be like ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ well, a society without rules.
@Patsy Faye Yes, exactly. @Shirley Martin Not to imply all rules are to be broken or disobeyed, but rather those which carry absolute authority over basic freedoms. An example came from my old friend and co-worker in Phoenix, Gerhard (Jerry) Fransky. He was born and raised in Germany, conscripted into Hitler's army, forced to fight in a war he hated. He explained the difference in cultural thinking between German and American thusly: In Germany the sign reads, "Walking on grass FORBIDDEN!" In America, it reads, "Please stay off grass". Frank
