Finally getting around to some chores, namely descaling things. I use CLR product for almost everything that needs help. Its safe for Washers, Dishwashers, and got the showerhead soaking in a bucket of it. The results are very good if you have a lot of Calcium in water like we do at this house. Last thing I do is descale the Keurig coffee maker with their descaler. This one is time consuming, but worth having it run smooth. While I am at it, I add a packet of Drain Enymes in all the plumbing drains around the house. I can do most of this during 'Time-Outs' during the football games.
I bought a cheap descaler for my toilet but it didn't work. It wasn't CLR....I get this rust ring around the inside of the toilet bowl and nothing works. Next step I'm going to put gloves on and go in with my hands and not the toilet brush.
@Babs Hunt , I don't use CLR to descale the coffee makers. I use one that is safe to run through the maker. Nuvera makes a good, cheap one. This time I found the Keurig descale on sale. I do use CLR inside our carafe pot, just not in the machine.
The 'best' descaler is white vinegar I use it to descale my kettle, covering the bottom in tap water then top up halfway with white vinegar leave standing for 25 minutes and the kettle is shiny and clear Cups, same treatment - sinks, pour on some vinegar wipe lightly to spread over, leave for 10 minutes then wipe away and dry. No chemicals needed just this good old fashioned remedy that works
@Patsy Faye. I've read so much about using the white vinegar for cleaning that I purchased a gallon of it. I must be doing something wrong because I'm not getting good results. My question is what could I be doing wrong, it seems pretty straightforward?

I've tried it for cleaning the tub and sinks in the bathroom and I found myself scrubbing just as much as. I guess I thought it was going to be easier. I used a little squirt of dawn because I can't stand the smell of vinegar by itself and some warm water to get it sudsy.
I'm puzzled - you shouldn't have to scrub at all I don't know what Dawn is, but I can tell you that once the vinegar is rinsed away, the smell evaporates quickly I wonder if the dawn has affected the use of vinegar Wish I could solve it for you, if I lived nearby I could show you how good it is You have to leave the vinegar for a few minutes to get to work, then go around the sink and taps with a wet cloth to budge the vinegar and residues Maybe its not for you Von - shame though ............
BTW Sheldon, there's no need to heat the pot, just let the vinegar sit for 25 minutes, you can swish the pot meanwhile
That's it!!! I never let the vinegar sit, not once. I'm not going to give up Patsy. I still have 3/4 of a gallon to use still.
I just put it in the coffee maker, let it sit awhile, then run the coffeemaker through its cycle. Bad news is I'm out of white vinegar
