Big Mouth. That is what I am tagging Starbucks CEO, Howard Schultz.
As if denouncing Christians who are against gay marriage a few months ago wasn't enough to hurt his business, now he's announced that he wants to hire 10,000 refugees.
Hiring refugees isn't bad, not bad at all. Matter of fact, it's actually good business provided that it does not hurt the overall picture of the coffee companies hiring policies, which, it does.

The picture that it brings to mind is one that denies the normal, everyday American Citizen a job based who he is. The normal citizen is not a refugee but an American who wants to work and is put in the back of the line do to hiring preferences based on ethnic origin and race.
The stock market has already shown some disdain toward Howard's statement by dropping some 4% the day after his announcement.

Now, what I would love to see is our acting Attorney General pick up the gauntlet and slam some big buck fines on Starbucks for discrimination. If they could, I'd like to see Howard Schultz get a fine just because he has a big mouth.........

There are a lot of big names voicing their opposition to Trumps ban....Google, Netflix and a few others that I can't recall as I write this.

Seems these companies were hiring people that are affected by the ban, maybe that's why we have high unemployment.

I could boycott Starbucks because I never go there, and I can even use bing instead of google but I want my Netflix even though I barely watch it.

Actually, I'm not the boycotting type even if I agree with the cause. I don't protest either. I just b*tch about things on forums or in my head.

Uh, I believe that Starbucks is a Seattle based Corporation but that too lends itself to be part of Schultz's decision because Seattle is a sanctuary city.
Guilt by association isn't a crime but when a corporation adopts the same views of it's home territory then in this case I believe it to be criminal in nature.

And yes, I do believe that it is an anti-Trump initiative and not one of home spun generosity.

From what I was looking at this morning, Netflix has come out with a new Netflix-developed program that has white people with "blackface" which is where they make the face look like it is a black person's face; but the body is white. Then they are insulting white people with racial slurs.
I didn't watch the trailer for the show; but it apparently has 17 times as many dislikes as likes.
There is a definite effort to cause racial disharmony and even hatred in this country. Shows like this are an insult to ALL people, regardless of their race, and I can see why people all over are boycotting Netflix.
Since we already paid our monthly subscription, I am not even sure how the boycott is working, just that there is one. Maybe people are just not watching it, or they are cancelling their memberships ?
I will have to look at it closer and see. I seldom watch Netflix anyway; but Bobby likes watching programs on there.

    Do boycotts really even work?

If they don't I'm only depriving myself of something I like....no?

Boycotting works if enough people boycott and it hurts there pocketbooks! I think Target is realizing that. :)

I don't shop Target but not because I'm boycotting but because it's just not convenient.

I had already deleted my account at Netflix, but glad to know about this as I won't go back.

Yeah, that seems to be just another way to widen the racial divide.

I was just looking at this short news video, and it is incredible how much the boycott of Starbucks has hurt them, just in the last two months ! The graph they show for Starbucks has dropped dramatically, and apparently part of it is the boycott and part is the announcement that they intend to hire 10,000 undocumented refugees.
Even if you don't object to Starbucks hiring refugees, can you imagine the fiasco of trying to order some of the specialized coffee drinks that they make from someone who doesn't even speak English, and probably has no clue how to make the specific drinks that Starbucks serves ?

I don't know, just looked at their stock and it's been pretty stable...think it closed at $56 something today.
